Words can’t describe how bad I feel for Don Carey. If he transfers that’s his 3rd school in the same number of years

104.5 is going to give a timeline of how this went down. I can’t listen. Can somebody else listen and post. Stated they received a text around 10:00am that Siena may need a new coach (and/or said JC going to GW). These guys laughed, made fun of tweet, etc.. they get tweets all the time about stuff that doesn’t happen. Then as day went on more and more media types tweeting. They said they were surprised at how quickly this occurred and while they’re not Siena alumni questioned “why” go to GW. Implying there’s better “programs” that need coaches (St Joe’s, etc). While not confirmed they seeing lots of tweets from reputable sources saying Jalen leaving (going to GW). They feel bad for Siena fans and have several stories. Talked at length about Sutherland and how he committed early, took His team to state champs. Now, what if he decides to not come to Siena. Talked about Burns. He sat out a year in order to play for JC, now JC gone. They talked about more stuff but again, I’m just too in shock, can’t believe this is happening after one year and still literally feel sick to my stomach. Thanks for this. Sounds like the timeline was nothing meaty just how they heard things. But thanks so much! I'm still in shock & mourning.

Sign of the times. Integrity is a bygone phrase. And the Siena basketball operation is inept. There’s plenty of alternatives for my sports entertainment dollar. Just like the transition off-season between Lanier and Fran, I have no plans to renew season tickets. They’ll have to show me just like Fran showed them how it’s done, at least at this level. I still went to 90 percent of the games without season tickets Fran’s first year. Honestly don’t see that happening this fall. I’ve had more than enough of this clown 🤡 show

Agree it completely sucks. Before condemning anyone let’s find out how it went down and why. Stay rational. As one poster stated if they were paying JC under 300k and didn’t give him a jump, and if known GW was calling and didn’t match their offer shame on admin. I am not going to o go off on JC or the school til the facts are out. HJ probrably knows more than he is posting. Once the facts are laid out than bury the offender. This is true. I agree more info would be helpful, but not sure we'll get much that we can be sure is true. I HAVE to give Jamion the benefit of the doubt right now. (I will probably be hammered for this.) Here's my first 'personal, touchy-feely' take on this. My guess is that it was hard for him to be away from his son for such long periods at a critical time in his life and an opportunity (a good one, at that) arose and he figured he had to take it. And who knows how his wife felt about being here and HER career. I assume she was from the DMV area. But money is certainly a factor. Do we know yet if it was $450K or $800K, as both have been reported here? If we did not offer a bump in salary after this year (not an extension) after this year, that would be our bad. I am still trying to process this and expect more shocking news to be announced in the next few weeks. We shouldn't make the 'easy hire' right away with Carm (if he is doesn't follow JC), but conduct a proper search and include him as a candidate and evaluate the pros & cons. I think Pickett is as good as gone and hope the other guys don't announce that they are leaving right away and give us a chance to hire somebody (so we can't dilly-dally, as my mother used to say.) . Would love to know what the 'rule' is on Burns and Carey (Although they can always apply for a waiver.)

Bad enough we lost a coach to a bad A-10 school, if that guy was right and we had lost him to a Patriot League school this place might have exploded.

If GW had hired him in the first place JC wouldn't be their coach now.

Guys, he is getting $800k a year, where did this $450k number come from? Where did your number come from? Maybe if they factored in the 1 million buy out it cost GW into that annual figure but as far as I know the 450K is an accurate figure of what his actual compensation is. Which given how expensive DC is, the cost of living adjustment will cost him 100K/year. This was a done deal before Siena knew what hit them and I’m not sure it was driven by $.

I think it has finally come to a head. Siena has to decide whether or not they are serious about actually competing as a division 1 basketball program. Siena is blessed to have such a great venue as the Times Union Center AND a great and very loyal fan base (students excluded). However, for whatever reason, the program has floundered since Fran left. I don’t know whose to blame if anyone. Maybe the administration just isnt that commited to what it takes to have a competitive mid major program. If it is the administration, they should just tell us that they are more concerned with academic excellence than the basketball program. I think that the writing is on the wall that paying a coach 275,000 is not cutting it. They need to up the ante to show they are serious, if not let us know so we don’t get our hopes up each season. I for one hope thats not the case. I think that the capital district sorely needs the fun and excitement that Siena once provided over the long cold winter months.

All good points what many have been saying for years. Brother Coughlin has done an outstanding job in regards to academics. Now time for him to get involved in athletics. Perhaps the school is just lost king at the buyout money, but as stated here there was friction between the coach and admin.
Will thank JC for one thing, was about to,pull the trigger on season tickets not now.

Darg looked shell shocked at the presser.I think he aged about 20 years since yesterday. He clearly didn't know what hit him- it happened so fast. Atlas that's how it looked from florida.

Curious as to where you have seen the $450K figure? I feel I've heard A10 and/or GW salaries were about at the 800K amount,

The $275k is partly due to paying Mitch and then patsos to not coach and partly because it was the first year. Siena has paid more for its coaches in the past and is now in the position to do so again. I still think that hiring proven winners is the way to go.
