Siena needs to get their act in order. TH came in had a wide open 3 pointer- nobody within 10 feet of him and he passed the ball- needless to say he didnt come back in. Iona wasn't even guarding Manny and Kadeem until they got ball and they only scored 4 points a piece. Have to find a way to make teams pay for doubling Jalen and Evan or team will continue to struggle to score points dailygazette.com/article/2019/02/14/shooting-struggles-hurting-siena-men-s-basketball

as bad as it was that siena shot less than 30% from three... the real issue against Iona was missing layups. Fisher missed at least 6 and it may have been as high as 8. He missed back to back layups to start the second half so it wasnt like he was tired. He also shoots and doesnt go after the rebound. The kind of shots hes missing in the paint most other players would have a good shot at getting their own rebound. You are a team captain and senior... you cant be missing those. Period. If you cant guard anyone... you better damn well finish those shots. You miss 6 to 8 layups AND your guy goes off for 25 pts and 13 rbs? thats on you.
Degnan with the behind the back crap as a senior? When the team needed a controlled and composed moment.
Smithen fifth year senior at times played more like the player who had to come off the bench early in the year due to player control/decision making issues. It had been a while since we saw him dribble off his foot.
In the end... this Iona loss is on Fisher. Own it.
some of the shooting woes themselves is that Siena is becoming predictable. Everyone in the gym knows they are going to wind the clock down and the opponent really just needs to defend hard the final 10-12 seconds. Also... there are going to be games you are going to be off from long distance as a team. That is unavoidable. Degnan 0-5 against Iona and 2-14 in his last 4 games. Pickett is 7-20 (.350) over the same stretch.. not awful but not great. Seymour was 0-3 against Iona and 7-20 as well his last 4. Strangely over the last 4 its evan fisher leading by percentage making 4-10 of his 3s. The last 3 Camper made was against St Bonaventure two and a half months ago. He is 0-9 since. Smithen is 2-9 in his last 4.

What really irritated me was Fisher not owning up to it after the game, rather than admitting that he was being soft he said the team as a whole was being soft. If I'm anybody else on the team and heard that I would be extremely pissed knowing his lack of capabilities on the floor cost them what should have been a 5th straight win especially after going up by 13

Well anyhow Siena has to figure out how to score more points- in last 8 games Siena has been over 60 points only once( 61 points vs FF) You can bet your bottom dollar that Quinny will double Jalen and Evan - with Manny and KaDeems man until Siena shows that they can make them pay for doing it. Unless one or both of them step up hard to play Manny and kadeem extended minutes together.Fisher must pass out of the double team. I'm going to guess Darwhichy gets another shot with limited minutes- Jamion has said the kid can shoot but hasnt shown it in games. They Gave TH another shot, but other than that one game, he still has the deer in the headlights look out there

the troublesome thing with Evan at times is his poor shot selection as has been mentioned here......and to go further, he really needs to curtail the turn around off the 1 foot fade away shot...……..many times, all he would need to do is turn around and go up strong for a normal shot, it may also result in him getting fouled so that could be another positive...………..sure he has hit a number of these, but I have a buddy who was keeping track of the times that Evan has done that fade away and by his account those are only being made at about a 30% clip, clearly not a pct that warrants a continual approach to that type of shot...…………but you know how players get, hey I made one so I can make another, and so on, but that doesn't necessarily equate it to being a good shot...……......

Anyone can have a bad (off) day. A champion in an individual sport develops the ability to compartmentalize and focus not on the reason for being 'off' but rather on the task in front of them and perseveres through the issue.
In a team sport, *(IMHO) when it is or should be obvious to the roster that one of your main players is 'out of sorts' that should intensify the collective effort to compensate. That is what I think had Jamion upset...anyone with eyes could see Evan struggling (missed multiple layups right off the bat) and the players going in and out with and around him were seemingly unaware and went sideways somewhat as individuals, either taking bad shots or passing up open ones. In the scope of it all, I think coaching staff will focus on how important it is (with this team) to stay focused and fundamentally sound to remain competitive going forward. There is no luxury or resting on laurels with the most gifted of teams, even more so when your margins for error are razor thin.

Seemed to lose his composure for quite a while. I guess in game coaching can drive anyone a little nuts.

We all know that by playing Smithen and Camper, you don't have great offense volume wise. However, you're talking a minimal loss of offense overall vs. a monster leap in defense. Siena is a defensive team right now. Have to accept it and move on to the next game. Hopefully, they won't be so cavalier with the ball, Fisher will make his damn layups, and he won't shoot a walk up three at the top of the key with 25 secs on the shot like he's some superstar. They were sloppy and overconfident and it blew up in their faces. That's why they lost. Have to learn to not take anything for granted and move on. This game was mostly a lesson in humility for them after a solid run of wins.

Thinking about the close to the Iona game reminded me of something I wrote a month ago that couldn't have played out more to form going 0-6 from distance in the last 8 minutes of the game: LSI - Close But No CigarYes, Fisher missed chippies. Yes, there were boneheaded turnovers uncharacteristic of this team. Still, they're living and dying by the three. On to the next one...
