While Ensor should share some of the blame, the conference is run by school presidents. Biggest problem the conference has had is bad head coaches. Siena has had Mitch and JP- two very bad choices, Niagara wouldn’t pay Mihalic and has been in crapper with Casey since. Rice can recruit, but will never be confused with coach K. FF pays Sydney Johnson big bucks and he stinks as coach. Manhattan should never have taken Mas back. Marist wouldn’t pay Brady and has been in toilet since then Since Siena has been in MAAC I cannot remember a year when Manhattan, Iona and Siena all have RPI over 200- so plenty of blame to go around. Before we point fingers at Ensor- Siena has not held up their end of things the last 9 years. I believe we finally have right man at helm to change that One or two schools doing better floats the entire conference back to its usual status. Just look at the AE with Vermont 67 and Stony Brook 144. We all know that there isnt a huge leap from conferences ranked 20th on down. Look for the MAAC to be back at least to 15-19 next year.

I like Siena1971s idea. Bring LaSalle and Fordham back get rid of one school and go to 12 teams. Hmmmm who goes? . Drop 3 dead beats and everybody’s ncaa tourney revenue increases 30%. Use that to pay for better coaches

My bet is on Quinny being the one that will leave as soon as they taste success in BBALL which may be pretty soon.

Good points, so where does Siena go from here? Status quo which seems to be Spending at a higher level for what the MAAC has become, try a move up and become a LaSalle or Fordham or cut the budgets to what other MAAC schools pay and suffer the consequences? Siena doesn't go anywhere from here. They are just as quilty of poor program management with the lazy, uninspired coaching hires they made in 2010 and 2013. While they have finally righted the ship on that account, they still barely fund the program at what is now considered the mid-major level. Keep in mind that the A-10 is considered a true mid-major league. And while Siena wouldn't have the lowest budget in that league, it would be bottom three or four. And JC would probably be the lowest paid coach in that league. They're not even in the ballpark of the high end of that league. I don't know where Siena stands budget wise in comparison to the other current preeminent east coast mid-major league - the CAA - but I'm betting they'd probably be mid-pack. So for the time being, the MAAC is right where Siena belongs. They can't afford the A-10. And I wouldn't want to join Hofstra in crappy situation in a league that's more in line with our aspirations, but makes little geographic sense. Better to strive to be the big fish that a small pond then try to be a guppie swimming amongst sharks. And don't get me started on the woman's side. No way the men's head coach would survived as long as Ali Jaques has with her record. She hasn't exactly eclipsed Gina Castelli. I like her, and I'm sensitive to what her and her fiance are going through, but she needs to get it going eventually. In 2015, Siena extended her until 2020. Saints22 can dislike this all he wants but the bottom line is Siena needs a new AD. Way past time for D’Arg to move on. I hope we have a new AD before Jamion moves on in 4-5 years.

Siena should never have extended Jimmy like they did. He won the CBI and they treated it like it was a national championship. They also should have had Mitch on shorter leash. He was a huge gamble. I don't mind taking the gamble but waiting 3 years for him to crater what Fran built was effing STUPID. Putting themselves in a situation where they couldn't buy out Jimmy was doubly stupid. That said, the rest of the MAAC schools tend to go 5-8 years with a crappy coach before dropping the axe. The league has lots of new coaches so a down cycle is to be expected. Funny how someone pointed out the MAAC spends at NEC levels and then noted that 2 of the top 3 budgets are former NEC schools. 1/3 the league is former NEC schools, right (Mon, Quin, Rider, Marist) so no surprise we're turning into the NEC. I'm not sure how to fix this as it isn't just a $$$ problem although that's part of it. The MAAC took those particular NEC schools specifically because they demonstrated they were willing to spend more than the typical NEC school. In addition to glittering new facilities, Quinny was also already paying Tom Moore more than most MAAC schools before they left. Don't putting those two in the same category as Marist and Rider. They may have all come from the same league, but Monmouth and Quinnipiac clearly have aspirations to spend what it takes to be big time. There other two, not so much.

IN many cses, including the PW and JP, the Frabciscan President picked the new coach. D'Arg is weak and does what he is told and doesn' rock teh boat. Siena needs to follow Marist and reduce teh Franciscans role to only spiritual and religious aspects of the achool. Does anyone on the Board know who picks teh mebers of the BOT? Siena has the TUC, a great fan base and community supporat, but needs to be able to braidedn its student recruitment from the greater Northeast corridor, and be less of a "local school." With the continuing demise of teh Catholic Churach in America, the priest pedophilia et al scandals, the new NYS siciast gov't policies for free tuition for middle class students at state colleges, nd the demographic trend to southern sattes Siena has to double down on how it may accomplish thes goals ( assuming the BOT even thinks that these are worthy goals). Siena blew its chance to join the A-10, probably because of lack of money, but the higher profile A-10 may hav been a good start to incresing the proiel of teh school in the Notheast. Easier said tahn done!sn

Siena70 fix your keyboard, that mumbo jumbo was harder to read than your normal drivel Besides fixing his keyboard, Siena70 should cease and desist with the constant negative religious references and more than obvious bias. Religion or the religious have nothing to do with the direction/results of our athletic programs. Drop the anti-Franciscan drivel - had you actually attended class and worked a little maybe you would have survived and got your sheepskin...

It just seems to me that an educational institution does not exist for sports, but sports exist for the camaraderie and financial assistance of that institution. The financial does not have to be direct, but help in its enrollment. The Franciscans are and have been a major influence on Siena's position in the Capital district. If becoming a member of a higher level of basketball has both a positive financial and enrollment effect, then it should be pursued. If it doesn't, then why should Siena do that?
