Mariano Rivera, Edgar Martinez, Mike Mussina and Roy Halladay elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America. A solid class. Can't argue with any of these inductees.

First time that a player was picked unanimously on the first vote - congrats Sandman... Hard to believe that guys like Aaron, Mantle, Mays, etc. were not unanimous. Not taking anything away from Mariano, but he generally played 3 outs per game.

NOBODY......not Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and on and on was ever elected unanimously. That’s just crazy. Anybody who didn’t put these guys and others on their ballot should have had their voting privilege revoked forever.

I chalk it up to the old baseball purists who probably thought no one baseball player should every be considered a unanimous selection. Stupid people. I’m not even a Yankee fan and I’m happy for him and his achievements.

I am pretty sure personality and how the player dealt with the press during his career also played a part. Heard that about Ted Williams and Steve Carlton.

Don’t kid yourself, there’s so called baseball purists who don’t like/acknowledge the American League because they don’t allow their pitchers to bat; or is it the other way around? Which ever occurred first pitchers hitting or not hitting. So I’ve heard. Those would/could be the same people who voted many many years ago for HOF.
