I think that Jalen will be PG in half court- but having several guards that can bring up the ball and take off pressure on Jalen, will be worth its weight in gold. Not to mention with natural scorers like Carey and Richard in back court it will make it next to impossible to double Jalen. Going to be a lot of fun for Siena fans to see that back court operate- although I don’t think rest of MAAC will enjoy it nearly as much For those wondering where Mayhem is you'll see it next year. Pickett, Carey, Walker, Richard all athletic guys who can pressure the ball. Pickett, Carey and Richard are all proven D1 talents and can shoot the ball well. Plus you throw in another year from guys like Seymour, Ratliff, Camper with Burns defending inside and you have the makings of a really athletic and deep team. I'm not wishing this year away but I am really excited about the next few years.

Why cant we just take it a year at a time? When you guys constantly talk about "next year," you are basically blowing off this year. There's no guarantees everything will be the way you think next year. Defections, injuries etc.....all can occur. Nobody wants that, but things happen.
Just focus on this years group and how well they're doing for being short on talent and bodies. THIS group is reality, and lets support them and their efforts. We can drool over next year in early March.

Actually, after April. We’ll be able to worry about next year after April (when Siena’s season is officially over).

Okay, after we win he National title. No, but I’m glad there’s other fans who are high on Siena as I am. There’s other tournaments that go on for a few weeks after the MAAC tournament ends. Use you’re imagination.

I just hope its not ridiculed by our own fans like the one 5 years ago.

We can drool over next year in early March. Kind of rich a dude who seldom goes to the games this year telling me to support the team THIS year. Does not mean for a second I don't support this year's team. I go to most home games; occasionally travel road games, so please don’t take any talk about next year’s roster for not supporting this year’s team. I obviously do support the team. We all knew going into this season it’s a “rebuilding” year. Reality is chance of post season this year is slim to none- again doesn’t mean I don’t support team; I’m enjoying the heck out of this year. Losses don’t bother me, and wins are extra sweet – it’s been a long 8 years. I fully understand nothing is guaranteed, but this isn’t like some fantasy dream of guys we hope the coach will recruit. HJ I understand your reluctance, after all program is 112-151 over last 8 years. But we have a new coach, Carey and Burns are practicing with team every day. 3 recruits are signed, and Richard is healing – so no it’s not some sort of fantasy. Help is obviously on the way and after 8 years of dreck it’s not a moment too soon. So yes occasionally is OK for fans to look ahead ( its what we do) BTW I’ll be sitting on floor under Siena’s basket tonight, if you are at game stop by and I’ll give you an update on How Burns and Carey are looking in practice

I hope this group gets to a postseason tourney. I just hope its not ridiculed by our own fans like the one 5 years ago. Why are you even bringing this up? Most of this board supported the team in CBI (we are after all mainly diehard fans) But why would Siena fans be any different than other college basketball fans? CBI/CIT is not heavily supported across college basketball. Fact of the matter is Siena fans supported the CBI better than other MAAC programs supported CBI/CIT games. Do we want to talk about attendance for FF or Iona at CIT games- I don’t think so

I think you can have your cake and ........
IDK I see a ton of a support for this squad, and a $hitload of positive comments, I also don’t have a problem looking to the future. Isn’t that why we have threads tracking future recruits and commitments?
Pretty common occurrence in all sports pro, college and HS. IMO no one is blowing off this year.

HJ, I don't think folks are slamming the CBI of Patsos or that group...……..in fact, it came at the right time, 3 down yrs of Mitch and the program was void of any energy after Fran left...…………….so it was a great experience/run that ended in the tourney title (which was terrific), that most if not all fans got behind...………………………...where fans probably soured was the next time around, a struggling program trying to get back on their feet needs to move forward, you can't take steps "back"...…….., as we have to come to realize, not getting an NIT/NCAA bid with his best group, was a major disappointment that was a tough pill to swallow ...……………..

I think Siena fans enjoyed the CBI tremendously as it was going on.
The thing with the CBI & CIT, as lower tier tournaments how much fans appreciate or enjoy them fall in to two buckets.
First, if you are an older and experienced team that had some preseason expectations, fans will then largely be disappointed by ending up in one of those two versus the NCAA or NIT tournaments.
Secondly, is if you are a young and inexperienced team, fans can appreciate that they had a good season and enjoy the experience in the CBI or CIT with the idea that in can be a springboard to greater success in the future since your key players are all young and returning.
That year we were certainly in the second bucket as we had zero expectations going in to the season. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the appreciation for that postseason run was lost because despite returning literally everyone of note from that team, we followed that up with an absolute stinker of a season in '14-15.

I think the greater point that HJ is making is that we should be rooting this team to success and the postseason this year. It'll be a challenge but if this team can get to 17 or 18 wins and garner a postseason berth given the roster turnover, it would be quite the accomplishment.
Patsos 1 was a fun year to root for the Saints given the expectations. It has been diminished in many fans minds because of the rest of his tenure and as such gets forgotten how much fun the CBI run was.

CBI made sense for a 500 Siena team coming off 3 year’s of futility. It was a nice run vs good competition. C tournaments with younger teams also serve to build/develop for the future. Unfortunately for Patsos it was his one and only MAAC career highlight and not a sign of things to come. In fact it was the polar opposite.

I think HJ is doing some revisionist history. The CBI championship was the pinnacle of JP’s time here at Siena. We were rebuilding and nothing was expected. I was at every home CBI game and thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately Jimmy took that as a blank check of goodwill and pissed all over it. IMHO he coasted the next 4 years. He followed up the CBI championship by recruiting the cancer Patrick Cole and two D2 players ( Paige and Brandiwicjk) you just can’t swing and miss an entire year like that- and of course Jimbo followed that up by recruiting several other low D1 or D2 players. His penchant for twice monthly vacations in off season wore on Siena fans. Let’s put this to bed, while end of Jimbo’s tenure at Siena was ugly. His coaching demeanor, twice a month vacations in off seasons, hiring drinking buddies for his assistants coaches were his eventual downfall. Jimmy put next to no effort into recruiting (besides his last 2 months) And his results showed it. He has nobody but himself to blame- certainly not Siena fans- he knew what was expected when he was hired and he thought he could bullshit his way thru it. Enough of looking in rearview mirror at Jimmy Patsos time here. Instead of looking backward complaining about some dreamt up slight 5 years ago… I’ll look forward and the future looks bright!!! Sorry if that offends a few of you!!!
