Wow, looks like the MAAC’s scheduling change a couple years ago has materially backfired; at least for this year. Not only is the MAAC down but each team had to schedule at least two other games (with the intent) against better opponents to have a chance to “raise” the MAAC’s RPI for post season play. I was in favor of this so we could have a chance at two better opponent games. That’s ok, this is the first year of the new “5 year plan”. Year 1: get Siena fans excited again coupled with a decent run in the MAAC Tournament. Year 2: reach the MAAC Championship game and possibly win it (otherwise reach a different post season tournament). Year 3: Win MAAC Tournament and possible 1st round victory. Year 4: Win MAAC regular season; possible win MAAC Tournament and NCAA game or go deep in NIT Intermission. End of year 4 before start of year 5: try and hold onto coach Christian. Year 5: Coach Christian stays, Siena wins MAAC regular season & Tournament and becomes the MAAC’s first Men’s BBall Team to reach NCAA Sweet Sixteen!!! The rest of this story has yet been written (or should I say yet to be dreamed by me).

Scoot, nice work pointing this out. Siena could contend for a top 5 spot.

It was my understanding that the MAAC went to this new scheduling in order to play at least two more games against better conferences in order to move the MAAC conference up the rpi so when the MAAC Tournament champion went to NCAA wed have a better seed. So, since the MAAC is now ranked lower than we were when this experiment started; I’d say it backfired. I originally was in favor of it because I thought it could eventually maybe get us to send two teams to NCAAs. Now, ranked last, it’s going to take Siena to the rescue the next 4-5 years to get the MAAC back to being relevant again (like during the Fran years).

A few things we are still in November, so the rankings don’t mean much yet. Does anyone think Belmont will finish 10th, Buffalo 14th, Radford 26th..etc etc. No doubt the MAAC is down this year, and it happens these things are cyclical. Since the MAAC stinks this year it might actually help Siena.

Who is the only team in the maac who will be getting a quality player in mid season according to what we know now? My belief is that if we had Burns now, we would be on the positive side of 500. From everything I've heard, Burns will make a very positive impact on this team this year. I think Seymour(sp?) will benefit a great deal because some of the pressure will come off him. Burns didn't become a captain of the second most important team at ND, unless he was a very positive influence. I believe come tournament time no maac team will be looking to play Siena.

I'm thinking that several MAAC teams will come to the "not looking to play Siena" conclusion well before the tourney - we are now a team where it's NOT all about the MAAC (tourney) YET!

Low major. Welcome to the First Four if you win the tournament if your not Rider or Iona. I would be very happy if we win the MAAC tourney next March and get any game in the NCAAs, including First Four.
