Four games in averaging 60.5. Any thoughts? Or is that not concerning. I'm a little concerned but we're 2-2. After losing almost every starter from an 8-24 team, did anyone think we were going to score 80 or 90 a game? We're hitting more 3's by a lot than last year and the flow of the game is MUCH smoother. While statistically I think one can make comparisons to Mitch & Jimmy, I'm finding these games much easier to watch. Maybe it is just the newness of the whole thing but I feel like this team is more fun to watch. Or maybe it is that I can see building blocks - Seymour with a sweet shot, Pickett - a 6'4" PG with the ability to hit clutch shots, player development with Fisher and Degnan performing admirably even though neither is overly athletic. If we're scoring 60 in a year or 2 I'll be more concerned but I doubt that will be the case.

And if we control the pace, limit turnovers & play defense, it doesn't matter as much. We LOST our scorers and JC had less than 3 months to restock the cupboard. Certainly not concerned in November after the turmoil this program has been through.

This is what good coaches do. They play the hand their dealt. Jamion is playing the style that gives him the best chance to win this year with the group he has. When he adds more athletic pieces (Carey, Walker, Sutherland, Richard etc) you'll see more Mayhem in full force.

If you get the system right, the results will eventually follow. But the system is a series of processes that are installed incrementally. The first component installed is team culture, starting with hard work. Players actually like to work hard, because they improve as individuals, improve as a team, and build team chemistry & confidence. Can’t be successful in stressful situations without chemistry & confidence. It also instills discipline, which manifests itself in numerous ways. One valuing the basketball. Obviously, if you don’t get a shot during the course of a possession, there is 0% chance of scoring points. Therefore, the best opportunity to score points is to not turn the ball over. In addition to more scoring opportunities, the defense is forced to expend more energy by having to play defense consistently, which may wear them down physically late in the game. It also allows for a more fluid, flowing offense, that is easy on my eyes. Discipline also results in fewer unnecessary fouls, especially those frustrating ‘40 feet from the basket’ & ‘2 seconds left on the shot clock’ fouls. High foul totals give the opposition easy points, while expending no energy, demoralize the defense, and takes your best players out of the game. Less fouling also improves the flow of the game, again, easy on my eyes. In my reality, I see a team that has a plan, works hard in execute it. I see a more positive, energized team. I see fewer turnovers, fewer fouls (I consider both of those essential to winning basketball), better communication, and better body language. I see a team that looks nothing similar to teams of recent past. This team is much better than recent teams, and the system/process is still in the early stages of implementation. I know some folks prefer to see slow pace of play & low scoring output to imply no improvement from recents teams. My movie is completely different. At this point, I’m more focused on the process, not the result. I’m enjoying my movie. I hope you enjoy yours.

Setting the tone with culture, hard work and discipline is where you need to start. Another key ingredient is camaraderie. We're seeing a BIG example of that in JC having the team and family over with 63 people! Setting the foundation now. Wins will come.

It will take about 2 or 3 recruiting classes to get all of the personnel needed to run his system the way he wants. Previous poster is correct in doing it in increments with culture being the first stepping stone.

Reminds of Fran's days when he would have the whole team at Thanksgiving and other events. That's how you build culture, folks. Be kind to each other!

Exactly....too many times in the last 5 years did I find out on Thanksgiving morning that we had kids stranded with no dinner or options.
BTW: I LOVE DIAMONDOG's new signature!!!

Previous poster is correct in doing it in increments with culture being the first stepping stone. I agree with this but I also won’t be surprised if he gets the team deep in the MAAC Tournament this year and/or even win it next year. I realize this may not happen. Just saying I won’t be surprised if it does. JC has the Team playing like a Team.
