A known commodity up in Section 2 for the past couple of years, 6'6" wing Brendan Coyle (Colonie '21) is beginning now to become a more household name amongst Division 1 college coaches having recently received his first Division 1 offer.
His game this past weekend at the City Rocks Top 24 showed that Coyle is truly ready for the big time with his unique and diverse skill set making him one of the more intriguing young prospects in the Capital Region.
Going into the summer Coyle was still a bit of an unknown commodity as Division 1 coaches hadn't really had the opportunity to see him play on a big stage but suiting up with City Rocks EYBL on the 16u level gave Coyle the platform he needed.
It was his chance to shine and put himself on the map among college programs and that is exactly what he did, with Coyle saying it was important to him to prove he was more than just a shooter, but someone who could be a versatile weapon moving forward on the college level.
"I think I showed I could do more than just shoot because coming into the summer I was more known as a shooter and now I think people who watched me see that I can defend, I can attack the basket, and I can handle the ball a bit too," Coyle said about what he offers on the floor.
Coyle went from someone who wasn't getting much college attention at all to in August receiving his first D-1 offer from his hometown school in Siena.
Getting his first Division 1 offer Coyle said felt like a dream come true to him, and getting it from the Saints, a school he grew up watching on tv and going to games at, made it an even sweeter and more surreal experience.
"I've been working hard and to see the effort pay off meant a lot," Coyle explained. "I've definitely grown up watching Siena too and I have gone to their campus a few times and I've been to a bunch of games at the Times Union Center throughout the years so it was special."
While Siena is still his first offer Coyle says that Yale and Vermont have also been in contact with him on a regular basis and that he is wide open to any school who is wanting to jump in on his recruitment.
Now with a much higher profile Coyle knows he will be someone with a target on his back for Section 2 Suburban Council opposition, but that's fine by him as he says he is ready for the challenge and just wants to do all he can in any way to lead Colonie to the promise land and win that coveted sectional title.
"The goal is the section championship no doubt," Coyle said. "That is the goal this year and we are in the gym working hard to hopefully make that happen."

Carm and Company are really putting in the work. These guys will be exhausted by the time the season starts. But without recruiting tirelessly you wind up mid to bottom half of the league........ As we’ve witnessed.

Have been wanting this sort of big shotblocker for years, no idea of his interest level but someone like this would be the final piece of the puzzle.

Jai Smith has an interview in NYC Hoops and we didn’t get mentioned which is odd given he was here a few weeks ago. I sometimes wonder if the reporters discount the interest in smaller schools to pander to bigger school fans

Dudzinski was a teammate of Luke Sutherland last year. The kid can shoot and has good hands and appears to be able to run the floor. Only a rising junior so obviously needs a lot of work in the weight room.
