What makes Burns so tough to replace is his FT rate combined with his FT %.Multiple needs can be addressed with multiple scholarships. Having a guy who could play with Camper next year as a 3/4 combo or even in a small ball 4/5 lineup would be nice versatility. Kid is a starting caliber MAAC player. I’d take him if we can get him. You said that he's a: "Big, physical combo forward who played a lot of minutes for them as a freshman and was in the rotation before leaving the team this month." I'm not pre-judging, and I have to believe that our staff and any other interested staff will be doing as much checking as they can, but given your description of his role at URI, don't you have to wonder why he would just leave.......two months into the season? I know that things happen, and things change, but to just walk away after a year and a half after seemingly being an important part of the program seems odd. Nico revisited? He was suspended for 3 games, then left. Don’t know details of the suspension. Another reason he left was URI had a midyear transfer of their own getting eligible in Antwan Walker from Georgetown. He probably was slated to take some of Tate’s playing time.

I’ve always been confused about mid-year transfers. I assume he can’t play until NEXT Jan. Soph this year, so does that mean only 2 years elig left or does he still get 2.5. Only 2 years would mean he’s finished after first semester his senior year. I’m sure every situation could be different, but what’s normal in a case like this? Just like with a regular transfer, the player has to sit for 2 semesters without a waiver (midyear guys have often gotten waivers to play immediately in the fall in recent years). The player is eligible as soon as finals end in December (so around December 15th. Each year the player plays in counts as a full season. So, here’s how it would break down: 2018-19: Freshman year (played full season) 2019-20: sophomore year (play about 10 games) 2020-21: junior year (play about 20 games) 2021-22: senior year (play full season) Basically, by being a midyear guy, you lose about 30 games without getting that waiver to play immediately. But for teams, it’s pretty convenient because you don’t feel like you are wasting a year of scholarship on a kid who can’t play. The scholarship you have in January was always going to be unused if you didn’t take a midyear kid, and the kid plays the next season. Players also can elect to sit the extra semester because you get 5 years to play 4 seasons. Semi Ojeleye did it at SMU, Jalen Harris did it at Nevada. So here’s how that map looks: 2018-19: freshman year (played full season) 2019-20: sophomore year (played about 10 games) 2020-21: REDSHIRT FULL SEASON 2021-22: junior season (play full season) 2022-23: senior season (play full season) Hope this helps. The mid-year transfer gets screwed any way you put it. Loses 30 games (a whole year and only gets to play 20 games with new team after sitting two semesters) in your first scenerio, and lose 50+ games in scenerio 2.

Btw, watched Yale/UNC game the other night. Platek never got in. Steadily losing minutes and might have already got jumped. He should consider leaving there and salvage his career somewhere he can actually play.

I'd take Tate in a heartbeat kid can play. The more talent we can assemble for next year easier it will be to get stretch 5. Plus more talent we get we wont need one single player to replace Burns stats- do it by sheer talent in committee form.

Let’s get nolesaint to go to a couple of Silver’s games and give a full report. Nothing shabby about 47% from 3 and 77% from the line.

And while we still need a 5, the more talent Carm can assemble, the less dependent we are on getting a stud 5 to replace all of Elijah's stats. All we would need is a solid defender at the 5 if we can get enough talent. I know some of the armchair coaches think we wont win 18 games next year without signing a stud Center- I say B/S- Fran won 23 games and a NCAA game with Josh Duell and his 5.5 points and 3.3 Rebounds a game as our starting Center. Not only that we beat a MAAC team in championship with a NBA lottery pick as its starting C - a long way to go, but staff has got some nice feelers out to some really good players- and while I dont want to minimize our need for a 5- it doesnt have to be done with 1 player- get enough talent and do it by committee if need be. Point is more than 1 way to skin that cat
