Justin Mazzulla from GW is transferring. Was their starting point guard until Jamion got there and averaged 9/5/4 last season. Carm coached him freshman year... not sure if he ran point on recruiting him but there’s familiarity there. We have multiple spots midseason. Would be at least worth a look, he’s probably gettable and his floor is useful guard. Problem would be his eligibility situation. You could get him to sit all of next year and then play 1 full year, or you have him eligible in December and that’s it. Or he petitions the NCAA for this year back which he might get.

I’d pass on Mazzulla, he is solid guard, but the cost is too high. You either put him on scholarship for year and a half to get half a year or sit him all of next year and get 1 full year out of him burning 2 and half years of scholarship for the one full season. The way this staff recruits we can do better, either with freshmen or get a 1 year grad student next year

The way this staff recruits we can do better, either with freshmen or get a 1 year grad student next year It’s basically a gambling situation. The ceiling might be higher with other kids, but he’s a starting caliber guard who’d be a veteran for us and there’s familiarity with Carm. Given our lack of depth right now, sometimes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Maybe you hit it big in the late period, maybe you don’t. Maybe Jalen decides HM basketball is the way to the pros and transfers and then you need a guard desperately. $hit can hit the fan quick in CBB and having a kid you know can get downhill, handle the ball, and defend is valuable. Plus, you’re overvaluing the cost I think. We have 2 spots at the semester break (1 if we put King on then). So this spring’s “investment” isn’t worth anything. Then it’s basically like getting a grad kid who misses the first month. I’m not saying sign him tomorrow (mid-year market will be active) but definitely one I’d keep on my radar and if the perfect midyear kid doesn’t come across our desk, we sign him up. The eligibility situation won’t exactly create a line out the door for him. We can do our do diligence and decide what we want to do.

I would almost prefer we get 2 ready kids from juco that can make a difference immediately............the core has us in position to be even better next year with a few needed pieces, imho...........

Sam Towns was at the Yale game Any feedback on this kid, I see UNCG just offered. Looks athletic, versatile good handle with a nice perimeter stroke. Looks like a 3/4 “tweener”. Needs to add bulk to his frame but that’s most kids as a frosh.

Sam Towns was at the Yale game Has Carm and Co. been on this player just recently. I don't remember seeing the name before. He looks like Manny Jr. With a pretty good looking outside shot for a growing 6'6" youngster.

If he's a legit 6-8, he seems like a decent get considering his SF type skills. Means he can be another guy to develop for the 4/5. Carm may be canning the whole traditional big center idea. A JO type may be the closest he'll ever go for. If he keeps getting athletes, it could work out well in the MAAC.

He looks like Manny Jr. With a pretty good looking outside shot for a growing 6'6" youngster. Offered 2 weeks ago, other than being a little thin he’s very athletic. Typical kid we’ve been seeing Carm/Staff recruit. I’m hoping Carpenter or another future recruit will have the ability to shoot from the perimeter . I love attacking the rim and have been calling for it for about the past 10 years. However, you still need shooters. We’ve witnessed that over the last two games where we’ve been shooting it at about 18% from deep. If you’re constantly taking the ball to the rim you need to have the ability to kick out every once in awhile. Becoming too one dimensional is never a great idea. It keeps the defense honest.

I agree. It's something to be careful of.
