I'm wondering about the Goals and Priorities of the Basketball program?
Not what we, the fans think they are or what they should be.
Rather how the "powers that be" define them.
I'm just looking at where the program was 8 years ago to where it is now. It can't be a coincidence how far the program has fallen.
At this point, its safe to say that what we want and what the school wants are not the same.

I obviously can't speak for the administration but I think they still do have very lofty goals for the program. The problem is they've made some really bad decisions (with hiring coaches AND their contracts) and are sorely lacking in the position of athlete director. But they'd be foolish not to want to have an elite program. Not at ANY cost but to do it like Siena has done it in the past. The attention a successful men's basketball brings to the college cannot be measured in dollars.
I think they wanted continuity after coaches left that they hired Mitch and then Jimmy hoping if they won big they stay a long time. But that is shortsighted. Mark Few is an anomaly - elite mid-majors lose their coaches and keep rolling along (VCU, Xavier, Butler, Vermont etc)
I do think the landscape has changed and Siena needs to embrace but we still spend the most in our league. I believe the commitment is there but the execution is not. Let's see who succeeds Patsos and D'Arg when the time comes.

I would agree with this- a winning basketball program looks to have been deemphasized, and I think the results of the last 7 years certainly reflects that- mission accomplished..LOL

Then why are we being charged like it's a high mid major D 1?

De-emphasis has been done before. In the early 60's Dan Cunha was canned and the schedule went from a national one to D3.

I guess time will tell but I'm guessing it's more incompetence (obviously not good either) than de-empasis". If Siena goes .500 or less next and doesn't fire Patsos then MikeC's post will have been prophetic. I do think Siena wants to be Harvard in the classroom and Gonzaga on the basketball court. Tough to have your cake and eat it too. While you don't have to prostitute yourself have to keep up with the Joneses and recruit accordingly.

I find it troubling that the comparisons were made against regionally located DIII schools and not MAAC peers - maybe our downward spiral trend was intended - one interesting data point - if we go DIII WBB games will be free to attend - IS will love that😂

But are they just comparing schools that Siena is competing with for students or was the report prepared to consider a move to DIII. I have to think it's the former.

If D'Arg recruited JP to play us down to DIII, he did a good job and got the right man for the job - my apologies for questioning his abilities

Last time I checked, we recruit students that are interested in Marist, Iona, Manhattan, and other regional DI schools - most students could give a crap re DI or DIII - they go for academics

The chart indicates the gain in revenue as a D1 is 5x that as a D3. Given the current situation I don't think they can give up that revenue. As far as MBB , incompetence was mentioned .

Hustler, you may be right - what is missing is the breakdown of expenses - if it costs us no more net as DI that would imply huge gains were we to regain the stature we once enjoyed - maybe the presentation was given to support kissing JP goodbye - one could only hope
