Interestingly, Doug Sherman kept referencing that Siena was 'in it's own house' on a 'made up to be neutral floor'. Now, I like Doug Sherman alot, but as this is the first tournament I have not attended in over 20 years, I have been watching on the '3' and listening to him. He has a lot of misinformation that he is giving out and was very much in the camp that this tournament is being played at Siena's home. He isn't the only one, so just be aware that if the boys pull it off, the tourney will likely be placed at at another 'test' venue to appease the other 10 coaches in the league. Again, just the way I hear the wind blowing.

What was the attendance last night? It's isn't included in the Final Stats for the game, which is a bit odd. I thought the total crowd was fairly decent, but obviously there were fans for several teams there. Crowd reaction in the second game was great, but that may have been fueled in part by fans from Iona and St. Peters also rooting for the Saints to knock out the #1 seed. There had to have been 8k there last night (it's deceiving since no curtainkr tarps. Arena holds 15K and looked more than half full. IMOI know someone else already mentioned this, but paid attendence was just under 5,500 last night. If you counted all of the Monmouth spirit squad members, total attendance was closer to 8K. In all seriousness, it likely felt like more because 99% of paid attendance was actually in the building. Typically when they say it's a crowd of 7K+ there's probably a similar number of fannies in the seats as last night.

If they want to be a truly low major conference they can have it on home floor of higher seed. Otherwise they should hod it at the tuc most years and give another arena a try every once in awhile. The tourney is scheduled to be at the tuc two more years and then will likely be held in NYC somewhere. We will see how that goes. The maac should be embracing its dominant teams and building off them like st Mary's with gonzaga, not making sure it's Even Steven all the time.

I don't disagree with that JG, but going into the tank for the past 7 years was a big hit. While that went on, Iona and Monmouth dominated along with Manhattan prior to the Maz debacle over the degree. I think if we had at least continually finished 2-3 in conference and made it to the final game a few times in that span, I could totally agree. But until Monmouth and Quinny were in the conference, the only 'homes' that could host were FF and Siena. Both newly added schools have arenas that could handle the tournament. Should be interesting to watch it play out, to say the least.

If their sites could make money, and not lo$e it, they could ho$t too.

I agree ... if the maac gets a competitive offer from somewhere else, they'll take it. once the tournament tanks at the Nassau Col., it will be back in Albany yet again. I get the competitive balance argument but think the maac should be played where they'll get the most fans in the arena. There is no other venue that would put as many fannies in the seats as the maac will see tonight. On an aside, wish I was there last night. Just rewatched the highlights. Man, the highlights made it sound loud especially on the put backs by Shivers and Wright.

The metro NY is huge but the competition is fierce. This year both the Big East and ACC tournaments will be in town. Sure the MAAC is the weekend before but unless you have a ton of time and money to burn you're not doing all of them so you'd pick. My bet is that the MAAC draws flies compared to the other tourneys. That said, Iona and MC are fairly close and Marist and Fairfield aren't that far either so it *could* work. The problem is you'd need all of their fans to add up to the Siena fan base. Unless all those schools make it to Sunday the #s will be relatively poor.

Unless they want to switch to games on the campus of the higher seeds, Albany is the only place that makes any sense at all for the tournament.
