we need offensive rebounding - its like as soon as shot goes up everyone retreats or they are all at the arc with no shot at a baord anyway

He has ranked better than 274th in offensive rebounding rate just once in his HC career.

If you shoot it very well offensive rebounds don't matter much obviously.

Breakaways should be able to be covered by a 6’9” softee and two 6’5” guards while a couple bigs battle inside for an offensive rebound. Just a couple rebounds and put backs a game is all I’m asking for.

Verbal Commits and other sites have him listed at 6'9" 240 ish I could be mistaken but I seem to remember that within the last few months some stated he'd grown to 6-10.

Has anyone been watching Young's games at all? His rebound totals are amazing, just hoping to be that high it isn't because he keeps missing his own shots and grabbing the offensive boards.

A disclaimer: I pay little to no attention to HS hoops these days and do not watch many HS highlight/hype videos - also this may have already been posted earlier in the thread. So please take this opinion with an enormous grain of salt. With that said - I DID end up half watching most of this game from January this year with Kyle Young (#33 in White). My initial takes are that he is a big body and not overly athletic, however he does have a real rebounding instinct (a nose for the ball if you will) and is ACTIVE on the boards, not just reaching over dudes' heads. There were times he over-aggressively went for offensive boards and then was super late getting back on transition D - not faulting him for this because he might be instructed to go after every rebound - but that kind of thing can burn you at the higher level. I wasn't keeping notes the whole time and there's a bunch of instances of him rebounding but here were a few moments of the game you could check out. 23:02 - a little dribble action from the perimeter, doesn't look to be a threat driving 27:20 - has a nice high post move, displaying some nice footwork on a spin move "and-1" play. This would be the one offensive play of his that would make you sit up in your seat a little bit. 28:55 - is completely un-checked for the Defensive rebound, but the board is going to the side of the basket towards two other players and he sniffs it out/isn't content to just let the ball come to him. 34:02 - team is clearly looking to go to him - he eventually gets a slipped in bounce pass for an easy deuce.

Kyle Young went for 7 and 10 last night as his team won the championship on a buzzer beater

I like Mikes game. He’s a tough kid. Knows how to play and can shoot. Won’t blow you away with his athleticism, but he’s got enough to play in this league.

Am I the only one that watches this and not get it? Sure Young’s a big kid but my reaction is still the same after watching this as it was the first time I saw video, he just looks like a plodder and not athletic. Not sure how his game is going to translate next year.Personally I just don’t get it. Guess I’ll need to see him in person.

I feel same way-- I'm sure JC knows the MAAC isnt the NEC where you go with that type big man, to me Young looks like an AE or NEC type big man, instead of the 6"7", 6'8" sometimes 6'9" athletic bouncy type big men we usually see in the MAAC - but until I see the kid I'll hold off - his rebound numbers are impressive in HS

I'm with OneIndian on this one, the tape above is nothing special. Hope we're wrong!
