A real fan sticks with the team period. Winning is better but in every game one team wins and one team loses. Fans can't control either one. Not showing up is an option, a childish one at that. The games aren't even really entertaining. The talent level is watered down. The maac is itself headed backwards. The decisions made by the powers that be in particular coaching hires has been no better than flinging monkey shit against a wall. How many regular seasons has patsos coached? How many has he won? 0. That figure is VERY telling. Throwing good money after bad is childish. Hell, being a sports fan at all is childish. Its how we all hang on to part of our youth. Those of you who are alumni are locked in. I get it. Those of us who aren't (I'm Union College) dont have that permanent attachment nor sensitivity to pride at your levels. But I would be pissed if I was an alumnus and watched what has transpired since Fran left. Hell, I'm pissed anyway lol. Mitch was an absolute joke hire and without a doubt someone in decision makings head shouldve rolled. Patsos... Didnt take a rocket scientist to know what you would get. Mediocrity. As it was discussed at length out here prior to his arrival. Maybe ... Just maybe that is actually good enough for the siena front office. Not one single thing has patsos done to change the mediocre perception/stigma. Not one. Laziness gets you mediocrity. Remember.. This is his big year. The pinnacle. Boat load of experience. All his roster. What you get this year is the absolute best you can expect. Strangely, siena isnt even the best in the capital region anymore.

SF - I disagree about the talent level. On paper, we have the #1 or #2 player in the league at every position. That's not a talent issue. What we don't have is a team. We don't have good coaching. I'm not a big fan of bring Deane back but I guarantee he could take this group and win a MAAC title. The parts are in place, even with some injuries. I think Jimmy has hit the zenith of what he can achieve. His sales pitch was basically "sure I was mediocre at Loyola but hoop was 2nd tier there. At Siena I'll be able to do so much more." I believe he really thought that. It turns out it isn't just resources.

I disagree on your assessment of the talent. :-) coaching is mediocre but the talent of the entire maac is down. So being the best mediocre player...ain't saying much

Siena realtime RPI 281 7 games in, not so hot! Not where I expected to be at this juncture.
This team needs to get the 5 starters (I want Nico starting) in sync and firing on all cylinders. They need to find 2 guys who can produce off the bench out of Shivers Richard or Smithen. If that happens this team could be back in contention. If everything stays stays quo it's gonna be a long year.

I was in favor of hiring Jimmy. I expected he would build a successful program that would have some stability to it and as such would bring long term, consistent success to Siena. I did not expect or desire the quick fix and then our coach is quickly on too bigger better opportunities. Then we are back to the Crap shoot of hiring the next coach. Something that I for one have had enough of. That said, I have been surprised at the lack of cohesive team play thus far this year. This team has plenty of talent and yet seems to lack direction. I get that falls on the coaches and also get that a team with a well executed thought out plan is what Siena fans expect.

Sent from my SM-G900P using proboards You know what if we're on the revolving door program with coaches and they're leaving for BCS jobs I'll take that over 9 years of $hitty to mediocre. Problem was after Fran had the program firing we hired a coach that we had no business hiring and for what? So we would have consistency? How did that work out? We needed to utilize a system that better vetted candidates. Now look where we are under the consistency model! We're the king of mediocrity.

I still firmly believe that ANYONE walking out of a Mitch B head coach interview that says "that's our guy" should be fired on the spot. Multiple conversations with him and not once did he even remotely sway that opinion

Multiple conversations with him and not once did he even remotely sway that opinion Couldn't agree more. Been on your bandwagon for the last 2 years. While JP neutral the fiasco of the UA game was the turning point. It is obvious that there are those at the school who will hinder the program if they have the ability to do so. Obvious again that there are many long time employees and little or no change at the school where turnover is needed. When you have a program, that has proven to be able to generate revenue for the school, bring name recognition nationally, which furthers the school with not having to pay marketing dollars out and bringing more talented students in, and yet the school takes the easy way out and continues to hire coach's who live in mediocracy. Change is needed in the leadership positions, school is financially challenge somewhat from reports, why throw something away that is helping you. If the admin and many alumni do not want o compete, live in the past, not face reality of what D! BB currently is than drop down to D3. Otherwise pull your shit together and compete

When Albany beat Yale last year, the Bulldogs were without their best player, Justin Sears, who was two- time Ivy League Player of the Year. Yale beat Baylor in the Big Dance and came within seven of Duke in the round of 32.

Clearly this thread has divulged into its own topic, but the MAAC top teams are right about where they have been the past few years statistically thus far, and the bottom of the MAAC isn't as abhorrent. So not really sure where the MAAC vitriol is coming from.

The losses in the beginning at all the guarantees and "tourneys" have given way to wins against like programs. This is where the new scheduling policy will help going forward, really wish they just stuck with the similar policy 10-15 years ago. It's obvious that there is a level where the games are predicted wins, toss ups, and impossible. By removing some impossible games and replacing them with winnable gossips the maac will improve as a whole which will get the rpi back in the top 13 on a more consistent basis. This could lead to more NCAA and nit appearances, and since this is now Siena's conference for life, might as well make it as fun as possible.
