Winning all the games you should win helps. We always seem to drop one & lay an egg and lose one we shouldn't. I'm interested to see how good our guard defense is we've had our issues stopping athletic guards. We also need to take care of the ball & limit turnovers. Also we can't go sub 500 vs top of the conference. That's a recipe for finishing in the 3 or 4 spot. We've struggled there recently.
If all that plays out your prediction is doable.

While I’m not ready to make my MAAC picks yet.. I can see why many are picking Monmouth ..I’m not 100% sold on Monmouth – everything aligned perfect for them last year. They clearly were not the same team once Deon Jones went down , while their guards are terrific , inside not so much, so unless they can get someone to replace production ( on both sides of ball) that Jones gave them, I see them stepping back- add to that, its much harder with bullseye on your back—every MAAC team will be pumped to play hawks and no non-conference foe will look past them . Will be interesting to see how Rice and Monmouth handle the pressure of bullseye Saints don't play Monmouth until late in the season, and those two games may be the highlight of the MAAC this year. Don't know if Marquis will play Robinson man-to-man, but whether he does or not, Marquis will have something to prove. He has been playing great (and I don't use that word lightly) in practice, so those games should be something to see. No question that Robinson is really good, but it will be interesting to see how he does playing against Smithen, Richard and possibly Marquis.

I agree 22—people forget Siena played most of last year’s MAAC schedule without Marquis , and the handful of games he did play at end of season he was shell of his former self. With all due apologies to Brett, Nico (our most talented) JO and Lavon, Quis is our best player IMO
And I agree Siena will have many options to throw at Monmouth this year – we can really pressure the outside since Hawks have next to nothing inside
And while I admit I don’t have any idea who Rice plans on plugging into Deon Jones spot, he is a big big loss for Hawks, they clearly were not same team after he got hurt. And while I'm certainly not writing Monmouth off- I wouldn't be surprised to see Hawks drop in standings this year

Of all our question marks I’m the least concerned about guard defense – we have 3 really solid defenders in Nico Quis and Kadeem. Richards has tools to be good defender also. Obviously if we don’t take care of ball and limit turnovers ( the single biggest question mark in my eyes) we won’t win anywhere near what I think (hope) we will. We are going to kill MAAC teams on boards this year- if we aren’t turning the ball over, going to be very difficult to beat us. On positive side like I said above we played almost entire MAAC schedule last year without Quis. That should be a big plus for limiting turnovers- also have to worry (a tad) about Nico and Quis meshing. But getting back to original point—turnovers or lack thereof—will be key to our season. No argument from me on that point

We got torched last year by the likes of English, Robinson and others. Having not seen our 2 new additions play D I'm not willing to say all is well. We struggled with speed and athleticism on the perimeter. So I think it's still a question mark to a certain degree. Don't forget 2 of those guys are coming off injuries as well. We will know in the first few games if it's still an issue. I do agree our interior should be the best in the MAAC. If EF can figure out how to use his size it would be an added bonus too.

I agree we had problem on perimeter, four things on that #1 As good as Ryan Oliver was offensively, he struggled mightily on defense, he just didn't have much lateral mobility and teams exploited that. Every team we played went right after Ryan #2 Quis is one of our better perimeter defenders and he missed a good chunk of last season, and even when he returned he wasn't the same defensive player due to foot injury #3 I've seen Kadeem play- defensively he is a major league upgrade over Oliver #4 Nico will be even better defender this season SO while I am in I'll believe it when I see it camp - I have the least amount of worry about that - if you want to worry about it feel free to I'll worry about turnover problem

I agree.
I think Wright/Clareth/Smithen is going to be a plus defensive backcourt and that Richard is also quickness upgrade over Oliver...which also might help. Richard is no defensive playmaker but he improves the team's quickness as a whole.
Oliver was a decent rebounder cause of his instincts but that's about it. Wormley was just a serviceable stopgap.
Wright and Clareth are already 2 of the top 5 defensive playmaking guards in the league. Wright is a 60 steal 10+ block guy and Clareth is a 60 steal 20+ block guy. Those guys are rare in this league.
There's only a few other guys who steal that much and the guys who do, don't block the shots. Stats aren't everything on D but they are great insights into their abilities.
Smithen could potentially have some of that in him too with his athleticism. Looking forward to finding out.

Kenpom has us #1 at 84 in the 15th ranked MAAC. Projected record of 20-11 (14-6)
58th ranked Offense. 129th ranked D.
Monmouth stays about where they were at 94th and he predicts that we tie.
Siena to lose
@ GW @kansas @st. Bonnies @florida Gulf Coast @hofstra @iona @monmouth
and some combination of 4 other games.

Not a prediction but my expectation....This is year four for Patsos and the all the other coaches not named Beyer/Buonaguro, went to the tournament by year three. Even Lanier, let that sink in.

This project was essentially building a respectable Division I program from scratch. There weren't many salvageable parts. I'm still not sure how the CBI run happened. I know it's a "low tier" tournament, but it got the kids in some competitive games late in the basketball season and got the Siena name back out there. Siena is in a good spot right now. Granted there are loftier goals than contending for a MAAC championship, but after 4 years and having Iona and Monmouth to complete with, I think the build is on schedule based on my expectations a few years ago. This year should be the start of getting to the next level. Visiting recruits are a higher caliber and they are getting some good commits. Looking forward to a fun season! The wildcard in my mind is that if Lavon can bring his "A" game every night it is going to be very hard to beat Siena night in and night out. He has the capability to take over a game. The talent on this year's team is much better than in the past, so he doesn't have to carry them, but he can put the nail in the coffin of Iona and Monmouth and help bring home the MAAC title.

What is this world coming to –Papi and MTS one game off on their prediction ? Apparently Papi learned something from the “beat down” MTS threw on him last year While I’m not ready to make my MAAC picks yet.. I can see why many are picking Monmouth ..I’m not 100% sold on Monmouth – everything aligned perfect for them last year. Will be interesting to see how Rice and Monmouth handle the pressure of bullseye Apparently a one game victory is a beat down or embarrassing loss. This years bet I will use an expert option in Tony's. I take Siena 23-8 15-5. Over or under MTS?
