All I read during/after the Bucknell game was how stupid JP was for getting that technical for his huddle not dispersing fast enough, and how it almost cost us the game. NOW, our head coach TRIES to get a technical, when we were down 12 early in the 2nd half, and according to Brett Bisping in this mornings paper, it "turned the game around, because it showed he had our backs." I posted how good a move it turned out to be, and glad to see a captain recognize it. Kid missed both FT's too, so it didn't even cost us a point. Ive never attacked him for getting a technical BUT.... this is one time it worked. There have been others where it has deflated the team. Props to him for recognizing a moment where it was needed. However, I dont expect the latter will never happen again. While i agree its not right to throw him under the bus every technical he takes... by the same token... its disingenuous to post a thread like this implying his technicals/behaviors are always acceptable. Like you not in favor of technical. Seems that JP is trying to have discussion with the refs instead of yelling at them, and players from what I have seen and listen to with away games the players are polite and ask the refs for clarification from them. For what ever reason, and it seems good JP seems a little calmer this year, seems to be coaching the kids from the bench all the time, and seems his recruits are performing. Key word is seeming, hopefully it continues.

I'm not a fan of technicals. It can definitely fire up the team but it can easily put you down another few points. It is always risky...and sure, if it works, nothing lost but if it doesn't it will be held against the coach. That seems reasonable to me. IMO, Siena shouldn't have been in that position anyway (down 12-15 pts).
I was a fan of Jimmy getting hired. I hope it turns out to be a good hire. So far reviews are mixed (first 2 years). This year Jimmy and the team seem different. I think it bodes well.

Hey it’s not like Jimmy doesn’t ever do anything good. I don’t think he has been accused of being “stinky” Jimmy. His moniker is So-so Jimbo, mediocre Jimmy- we all hope he can turn that into as one wise poster said go-go Jimmy. I think most Siena fans are from Missouri when it comes to Jimmy—"show me". He is not going to B/S Siena fans and get through like he could at Loyola. This is big year for Jimmy and Siena .. as they say—so far so good Tony, is "so-so Jimbo" kind of like ".500 Fran"? (Now Saint Francis of Siena and Iowa)

The thread was created because of last weeks attack on the Bucknell "T." Then when we all saw how we got that, I think we could all agree, it was a joke, and not JP losing his cool. There are times in coaching basketball, you need to let the refs know they're are sticking it you and your team. Like Bisping added, it also shows the kids you have their back when things seem to be going south. Supporters, and even non-supporters, have to agree that our head coachs attitude, and sideline behavior, have taken a 180 this year. This is definitely contributing to our successful stat of the season. ps--last time we won 5 games in a row, Fran was the HC. Let's see if we can bust that Tuesday night at Cornell.

I'll agree because I'm not a fan of the carnival barker approach that we saw over the first 2 years. It's very apparent that he has made a concerted effort to tone it down and I for one appreciate the effort. One game at a time ......

He was jawing at Oliver quite a bit All coaches do that on occasion. I remember some broken clipboards and spittle flying on the sidelines about 6-7 years ago. And I was disappointed in Ryan's decision on that turnover late in the game. I expect a senior not to do that in a critical moment like that.

Oliver is going for 6 and 4, not bad for the 6th option on the team. He's made a big play, be it a rebound, put back or 3 in all 4 of the wins.
No, he isn't playing great yet but he's filling his role.

Because he made a bad pass, that's why. However, he seems to be a far easier target than others on the team Just my cents.

No, he isn't playing great yet but he's filling his role. Oliver is one of the only guys on the team with a positive assist ratio, he's rebounding, and his overall shooting percentage is fine. And he's been in a shooting slump since the season started. The kid is not a star but he's generally doing his job. He's scored 5 or 7 pts in every single game so far. Once the 3's start falling again, those will turn into 8 & 10 pt games. He made 1 bad pass. The rest of the team has made a ton of them. Oliver is generally filling his role.

Im staying a bit grounded in expectations.... Yes the team is 4-0 over the last 4. The radford win will turn out to be a pretty good neutral court win. The other three are against teams currently ranked 326, 214, 350 and a combined 3-12 record. The good in this... they are winning games they should... even better in this.... The schedule is fairly week so piling up wins is quite doable. Also... we should have a pretty good idea as to what kind of team this is by Christmas/New Years @ Cornell Manhattan @ St Peters Hofstra UAlbany St Bonaventure (Christmas) @ Vermont seven games (four home and three away)... Never easy winning @ Cornell but this Cornell team isnt all that great. Manhattan at home should be a W. @ St Peters... a should win game. St Peters has one win against Brown and losses to Lafayette, Princeton, Hartford, FDU. Hofstra will be a good measuring stick. UAlbany is not going to be easy. St Bonaventure another tough out and then ending the year @vermont. Hofstra through Vermont is a tough run with no easy game. 4-3 at a minimum over that run and would like to see 5-2 at worst.

Just make sure we win those 1st 2 MAAC games. Get at those teams while they're reeling a bit.

Pretty sure the Bucknell win will end up better than you think. The Bryant win was only notable for being on the road. Loyola win is important only in that it involved a big comeback and kept the momentum going.

This is big year for Jimmy and Siena .. as they say—so far so good Quite honestly I think it will take multiple "good" years to win over many here. This is a tough crowd, the bar is high and consistent excellence is the standard. To achieve that consistency it helps to have coaching continuity which is very hard to achieve in the MAAC where win and move on is the norm. Barring long term coaching tenure it is imperative that the right guy is chosen as the next guy. Siena hasn't consistently chosen wisely. I think Patsos will get it done, but only time will tell. I like the direction so far.
