too early to say that Monmouth is going to win the league, there have been quite a few teams that have started strong only to fizzle out as the season went along. I still think Iona is the team to beat. They'll figure out what they need to and be a very tough team to beat in MAAC play. Beat UCLA Strong game vs USC beat ND. I watched the ND game baring injury they're going to be tough in the MAAC , they are no fluke.

They sure are going to be tough. Isn't Robinson from Kingston? Stewart is local. Robinson had little offers out of Kingston. Stewart had an offer from both Siena and U-ALBANY for a walk-on spot only.

It's going to be interesting for sure. In my office with ESPN in background Monmouth, King Rice and Justin Robinson getting national press on Sports Center. Anyone besides me have a feeling something more than just missing Laury is wrong at Iona? It is surprising, in spite of the graduation of Laury, that Iona has starting poorly, when you consider who they have back. Are these new bigs they brought in just not panning out? Maybe jump in level of play?

Sounds like the King can find a diamond in the rough.

I wouldn’t be so quick to write off Iona. A few of their whacky fans thought they could lose Laury and his 20PPG and 10 boards and not skip a beat. Washington, Roundtree and Bessick are all solid role players- none of them are anywhere near the offensive threat Laury was. Iona has only played 3 games.
I think Iona may have taken a slight – and I mean slight step back, unfortunately for gals, Monmouth has taken a huge step forward, add in a much improved Siena and solid Canisius and no way are Gals waltzing thru MAAC this year, Having said that Gals are still extremely dangerous – at least in regular season, we know they will choke in Albany –

Washington looks like he's a load. He's the one that transferred in from the C.C.

Iona is missing that Laury could shoot from the outside, drive in the lane, rebound, and typically needed two defenders to guard him. Good ball handling skills. A true point forward.
He opened the floor for English, Williams, Amayo, and Casimir last year.
Much (he became eligible this year) is a dangerous second option on this team in my opinion. He's shooting lights out from 3.

I wonder if Rice had a five year plan! He was almost fired 2 yrs back, the AD gave him 1 more year and he turned it around. He looks to have an eye for talent.

On a related topic, Fran doesn't do well in Orlando. Iowa lost to ND today. Is that 0-5 now, or has Fran/Iowa been in Orlando in past 5-6 years?
