I was on record many times in the past. I did NOT want Jimmy to give Cam a ship, period. I lost that request. But now that Jimmy did give Cam the ship, JO's back on team and will play (either this yet or next). I'm still hopeful Cam will "offer" his ship to JO for the better of the team. He more than others can afford to pay his own way. Regardless of any "deals" made or lack of talent.

Doesn't matter if he's eligible and/or can play this year. JO is back on team and will either play this year or next. Regarding Cam, my opinion was not that Jimmy would ask him to give up ship but rather Cam would do it on his own for "the better of the Team". He know's he can afford the tuition as a walk-on and he's willing to pay one more yr "for the Team". He's a class act and want's the Team to win more than getting 4 yrs of ship money. Even if he doesn't JO will get ship next year. Sort of does matter—that’s why you don’t give a walk on a scholarship in May. No matter what you think of JO- it’s pretty clear we would be a better team with him than without him. He would be unequivocally the best returning 5 in the MAAC this year – without him we are a donut team inside, Imoh can’t score. But it is what it is, barring someone giving up their ship ( which doesn’t look like will happen) JO will sit next year Yup! Another JP head scratcher .....

I'm pretty confident that if the NCAA clears him they'll get creative and find a way with the scholarship (this is a special circumstance thing). If he can't play because of giving Gottfried a scholarship Jimmy will have a hard time living that one down regardless if JO's return was unforeseen.

.@sienambb coach Jimmy Patsos said Jr. F Javion Ogunyemi of Troy is enrolled after coming back from Boston U., where he spent 3 months.

Patsos said Siena is applying for a waiver with the NCAA so Oguneymi can play immediately. Hope to know by early October.

Patsos said Siena must apply for a waiver because Ogunyemi took 9 credits of classes and worked out with the team at Boston University.

"If you're going to give a waiver, these are the ones the NCAA should be proud of.'' - Siena's Jimmy Patsos on Javion Ogunyemi.

Siena's Javion Ogunyemi won't be on scholarship this upcoming season. He's getting combination of financial aid and loans.

JO playing this year will come down to the NCAA. The scholarship thing won't impede it. However next year (assuming everyone returns which the odds are against check out the D1 transfer rate) we'll have only one scholarship to use. Let's hope the NCAA has some common sense for once and a heart. This is a VERY RARE situation will difficult circumstances.

So now it comes down to "participation" correct...?
Hardship is not a factor...as those waivers are no longer given.

why in the world would Cam give up his scholarship? he earned it. he walked on, did what the team asked and Jimmy rewarded him. Now we can debate if he needed to do that, or why he did it, but the fact is he did it... this young man earned a D1 Scholarship. I highly doubt he is surrendering it just to balance the ledger. This is all on JO and clearly he has taken on some financial burden now to continue at Siena, but again, that falls on him and his decisions. Cam should feel zero pressure to give up his scholarship... This isn't Illinois football! lol

We've got to do this right. I am not in favor of anybody 'leaving'. JO made a mistake himself. Honest and small, esp considering his situation but a mistake nonetheless. Nobody else should have to pay for that. I want JO on this team in the worst way this year, but I want to do it right and it wouldn't be the worst thing if he couldn't play till next year. Hopefully, there are ways to make it happen. Are these all the issues: 1. Eligibility - Based on bison's (?) research about returning to your orig school, I would think he has a good shot. 2. Scholarship - Seems like the biggest obstacle. 3. If no scholarship, but gets non scholly aid or loans, would he be considered a walk-on and is there any issue with the limit of 13? Either way, I certainly hope he attends school at Siena thsi year., According to Jimmy sounds like he will. Re #3, if he gets non scholly aid, he counts against the limit of 13 since he was a recruited athlete. It's OK for a true walk-on who was not "recruited" under the NCAA definition to get need-based aid or academic scholarships etc. It is NOT OK for a recruited athlete to get that aid without counting against the limit. Otherwise a team might be able to assemble a roster of 20 or 30 great players from low-income areas who all attend on need-based aid. So now this comes into play, I assume. We were at 13 before JO came back, no?

Would love to have JO on the court this year but the "financial aid" red flag seems hard to get by, for me anyway, in terms of immediate availability. I would think the NCAA would not look favorably on Siena providing financial aid to a student that was previously on scholarship in parallel with reviewing a request for a waiver to play immediately. Hope I'm dead wrong. Loans are independent of the school but the term "financial aid" shouts "provided by Siena". I also hope his "deal" has him living on-campus and not having to throw the room and board cost into his student loan package.

Is it absolutely certain that all players will be back when class starts?

Heck, they gave me a couple thousand off the two yes I attended (back when the tuition was washy lower than now). It's no different for JO the walk-on for one year. Siena's not hiding anything & even having it posted on TU blog. If they we at all concerned about any violations, they wouldn't be so out coming as they appear to be. I'm sure they researched it. This is a unique situation of a player getting home sick and coming back where there were no ships available. This is not like Siena recruiting 20 guys and having 7 of those "walk-on" with deep financial aid packages. It's one player and the first time I'm aware of. I wouldn't worry, not that anyone is.
