VC updated the incoming players status/news due to Siena updated its Men's Basketball Roster. What I didn't realize before is that VC lists Evan as the 41st best PF. I know MD listed him as 13th best in MD (or DMV), but 41st PF in country sounds pretty amazing (for a Siena type MM). www.verbalcommits.com/player_rankings/2015/position/4VC also finally added Imoh back. For the past few months the removed Imoh (probably as graduating, or forgot about RS). Good to have him back. www.verbalcommits.com/schools/siena

Evan Fisher looks good on paper. Im really excited about him. What player from the past would you compare him too?
He seems to have a lot of talent for a Siena big man.

VC lists him as 6'9" and 210 lbs, Siena lists him as 6'8" and 249. I hope the additional weight is all good and he can run with it!

Kid is a horse!! Knows how to play and has some swag to his game. Another kid that hates losing, and won't accept it.
I fullly expect him to him be the first big off the bench this year. He a combination of Steve McCoy and Colin Weaver.

Steve McCoy reborn would be great. Colin Weaver left early for greener pastures or at least pastures nearer home if I remember correctly.

4guysinblazers.com/evan-fisher-bringing-size-and-swagger-to-the-saints/14443“I had set all my visits up, four weekends in a row,” explains Fisher. Siena was my third visit ... . Right when I came on campus at Siena I didn’t even want to go on my last visit. I knew Siena was the spot for me. It’s a spot we can come in and really contribute. It’s not somewhere where you had to sit out for two years. They really needed people who can come in and play. That was really kind of a big thing.” “The first thing that really stood out was the fan base,” Fisher admits. “Playing in a huge arena, it’s something a player definitely wants. They want support. ... . Along with Coach Patsos, ... He’s been a big figure around there and his style of coaching so those two things were huge.” ... . “I pride myself on being tough on the court,” Fisher says. There’s never any room for being soft especially at this level. Especially as a freshman it’s just doing whatever we need to do to win. I’m very passionate about winning. I’m very passionate about being tough and just being a gritty player.”

I see the potential in Evan but I'm less sure of him than HJ.
Fisher and Clareth both played for the Baltimore Elite AAU last summer which was 0-16. Clareth averaged 17 ppg and was the alpha dog but Fisher averaged 7 and 4 on 35% shooting and 15% from three.
He doesn't seem like he blocks a lot of shots or forces a lot of TOs and on offense he tends to turn it over a bit. He's also only about a 63% type FT shooter.
I think he can eventually develop into a decent interior scorer but I fear this year it may me a case of flash over substance. He finished better inside and rebounded well by the numbers in HS where the plays were probably more organized and designed for him but he's a frosh..and sometimes it takes them time to finish strong inside.
Anything he gives us this year is all bonus in my mind.
I hope that Jimmy is not giving up on his sophomores again for the new toy in town. They both have better shooting ability I think...and WB could be much more of factor on D with his Wignot energy. And Paige is tough, rebounds, finishes, and makes his FTs already. I'm curious to see if there's more in the tank there.
Fisher visibly looks aggressive on O but I just hope Patsos carefully weighs that with overall production before he moves him up the depth chart officially.

WB is as athletic as big men come in MAAC- problem with WB is he doesn't seem to have high basketball IQ. I'm hoping he takes a sophomore jump and develops a few moves inside and becomes a better defender- I agree he provides energy for sure
As far as Fisher goes big men in MAAC over 6'8" seldom do much their freshmen year- I'd be ecstatic to get 3 or 4 PPG and 3 boards out of him- anything over that is gravy. I wouldn't worry to much about his AAU numbers- at AAU guards seldom pass to big men, they are all out to get 'theirs"
Not sure what to expect from Jimmy Paige- I do know if he is to get any minutes he is going to have to prove he can play the 3- 6'4" power forwards usually don't hack it in MAAC - On plus side Paige does seem to have a high basketball IQ. Hoping he can prove to Patsos and us that he can defend and play the 3, think we may see a lot more pressing and man to man defense this year

I'm excited about Fisher. He comes in with athletic ability and a college ready body, both of which are rare at this level. I would expect about what we got out of WB last season from Fisher. This is the MAAC - stud freshmen big men don't typically land in this league. I don't think even Jason Thompson was a standout as a frosh. But I can see Fisher being a candidate for a sophomore jump. I think we could see one from WB this season with all that naturally gifted athleticism he enjoys. Both Fisher and WB are going to get quality minutes this season with all the fouling this team does.

There are a lot of athletically gifted big men in the MAAC. They're just mostly 6-7 and 6-8 instead of 6-10. The key is combining athleticism with skill, toughness, and IQ. Fisher isn't above average athletically for this league...he's just got some feisty interior moves and that fade away post jumper. I hope WB has learned to box out and play smarter. I'm counting on him. He has game changing defensive potential as a disruptor with his natural energy and athleticism. Can't teach that.

I don't know if he's ever gonna be starter material but he's a guy many teams would take for their bench. He doesn't hurt you. I am still most curious about LaRose. We need another shooter. I still like him on paper. I just wish I could see more game film of him. If he's another Poole type, he'd be the class sleeper. With so many unprovens I'm a little leery of whether JP gives the right guys their shots in the right order. I feel like that's been a weakness of his.

I’d like Paige and I hope he “makes” it, but before I’d say he will be a valuable reserve he has to prove he can play the 3- if he can’t play 3 he will be a career 11th, 12th `13th man
I’m hopefull LaRose can contribute –but to tell you the truth not expecting much – the jump from Ogdensburg to D1 is huge/ Poole came from big time league in Jersey and while all freshmen take time to adjust the gap between Jersey—Baltimore etc to D1 is much less the from a small upstate class B school
As most of you know I’m no big Jimmy fan- but I didn’t have much problem with players he played in playing group- my problem was playing known foul prone kids with 2 and 3 fouls in first half – or the way he jerked WB and Paige around last year when he knew he had to play them after all the injuries. Just out of curiosity KK what players didn’t you like in playing group?

Just out of curiosity KK what players didn’t you like in playing group? I think pretty much everyone knows my opinion on which player should have played less. No point in harping on it now. Other than that, my issues have been fouls, timeouts, and lineup choices. I believe in maximizing stats in order to win..no secret. This includes every stat...and putting a team on the floor that gives you the best combination of them all...both offensive and defensive. You give your stat stuffers the most minutes...meaning guys with elite skills in certain categories that help you...in the greater scheme. Silas, for an example, is a rebounding and defensive stat stuffer. Wright is a turnover margin mastermind on both sides of the ball. JO was a bad rebounder but a good shotblocker and developing interior scorer. You look at your team and develop a strategy...based on skills and figure out how to maximize them. I'm not always sure that's happening. In year 1, I could forgive the 1 shooter lineups because we dominated the boards and the interior and we had a plan. In year 2, I think the one guy probably shouldn't have played hardly at all and WB and Paige should have played more because they were bringing much more to the table overall. Patsos made mistakes like that and technicals, and bad timeouts, but I do forgive him for some things. Without Bisping and Silas the rebounding was doomed from the start and losing your identity so early is tough to come back from. And Siena had a lot of bad luck with how well teams shot jumpers and FTs against us. Although, I also had a problem when he DID have Bisping...where was the high post offense that put Brett on the map?
