good point I am very concerned over that myself-- oh well PPC says he has team he wants-I'm willing to give him a chance- this is his 3rd year I don't want to hear any excuses, on how he inherited a mess ( he is now using that in small gatherings) he cant recruit the type kid he needs at Siena, we are young etc. Going to be a interesting year- gonna try and keep the faith-- but man its hard with this guy sometimes It smacks of Evan Hymes' recruitment all over again. Luck. That ain't the kind of luck I want

What do you think I'm trying to say? That he shoots 80% from the FT line so he should play next year? Har har har.

I'm not sure what you guys are complaining about - I think they did a wonderful job recruiting this time around. Pretty much every need was filled. They got guys who can play the 1-4 who are athletic and can compete immediately. If you think they were going to get 5 studs in one class, you must think this is Duke or Kansas. In a typical MAAC 5 player class, one would expect a role player or two. If a finalist for NY State's Mr. Basketball and City Rocks starter is one of this team's two end of bench role players the next few seasons, that's a pretty deep team. The open scholly is a result of a last-minute transfer by a kid with a unique personal situation after the prime recruiting period was over - not sure how that's on Jimmy. Lastly, some of you look for issues where there are none. You should be happy Atlantic 10 transfers are beating down Siena's door to come instead of complaining about who initiated contact first. Smithen thought of Siena as soon as he decided he would transfer - before he announced his transfer and got his release. He called Greg manning as soon as he got the release to do so. Did he even make any of the posted transfer lists before he reached out and committed to Siena? Unless you expect the coaches to be mind readers, I'm not sure how any of you expected the coaches to reach out to Smithen as quick as he got to them. www.timesunion.com/tuplus-sports/article/Siena-basketball-welcomes-Richmond-transfer-6220292.phpThe only thing that want filled was a SF. Perhaps the strengths of The team can mask the weakness at this spot Arguably we have Paige and LaRose as options at that position. The only way any perceived need at that spot isn't filled is if you were looking for the next Edwin Ubiles to be recruited - which was an unlikely proposition from the get-go.

Whether or not people think that Lavon Long is a 3, the fact is, any recruit looking at Siena sees a two year entrenched player at that position with two years remaining. So there is no way we get a stud 3 to come into a situation where he would be playing behind Long for two years. Next season there is an excellent shot at recruiting a stud 3 as he would only have one year to sit behind Lavon.

Long has foul issues and at times he plays the 4 There are enough min for another 3

I don't see it as an impediment, we could still land a starting SF even w-Lavon having two yrs left. First, Lavon is a team player, if asked to play guard, SF, PF or C; he'll do it. He's that kind of guy. We could play 4 Guards & LL at PF/C or play 5 guards with LL the 5th guard - Guarding the opposing Fran's tallest player - in stretches. Same difference. You can never have too much talent, the key is keeping the talent happy enough to stay. CJ could have started on any other MAAC team but wanted to be part of champions and never complained for being a reserve. I don't buy it that a talented SF won't come. It all depends on how you sell it & get the rest of the team to buy in.

It's the same with the pg position. Sure you get backups to continue the position but Wright and Long won't be replaced by a freshman. They have 2 years of DI experience. A freshman that good will look for his own team or a higher level. It's the nature of recruiting.

A few things, Jimmy is committed to LL, he will sink or swim next few years with Lavon. I’m more concerned with Lavon improving. He was scouted last year and teams were overplaying his left hand big time. Toward end of year Lavon went right a few times but clearly was much more comfortable going left. Lavon needs to develop a consistent right hand and stop and pop jumper.
