We've offered a 6'9" 230 forward named Jack Lieb from Deerfield, Illinois.....he's a 2015 kid for that scholly I guess. Long, great shotblocker. Puts it on the floor pretty well too. Looks like a good get if we can close the deal. I'd still rather have a SF..... How do you know he's a great shotblocker? He looks a little RyRo'y. Moves kind of like him.

There's a 5 min video of him on Verbal Commits, and he made a lot of impressive blocks. Has real good timing. He's a natural shotblocker.

Makes sense Looks like he missed the majority of his senior year with a knee injury. His first game was early Feb. That might explain the lack of interest in his recruitment. He's got like 12 offers now, and the list is growing. Must have had a good showing in the AAU tourney JP was at last weekend in Lexington.

He seems like a smart player who can also stretch the defense with his outside shooting. Defensively they didn't show anything really other than him blocking shots. Athleticism, which he may be lacking, is great but if you are tall and smart in the paint you can impact the game. Can't load up on players with the same weaknesses

He looks like a Kevin Bleeker, not a rim protector. Porter is a rim protector.

Imoh is gone next year, Bisping could be also ( and at best 1 more year) at our level it takes a few years to develop big men- everyone was down on JO as freshmen and we saw what he did as Soph-- in history of MAAC only a handful of guys 6'8" or taller were impact big men as freshmen - for bigs at MAAC level you have to plan out a few years in advance. Guards and wings impact players can be signed-and again I told you guys last week a wing would not be signed

Here's a guy that has D1 experience, blocks a lot of shots and can sit out, develop, and immediately replace Imoh Silas. I'm scared we're loading up on shooting bigs as opposed to guys who can really defend the interior. Maybe this kid can, but Porter is more proven in that aspect.

Thats the issue we don't need a 4th player with the same skill set if this kids game is like WB EF BB. if he is a true inside rim protector rebounder w/ some offensive I'm ok with him ... It would plug the JO gap

Thats the issue we don't need a 4th player with the same skill set Based on his frosh block rate, Porter would block 78 shots in 1,000 minutes. JO's rate this year would have had him at 58. He also rebounded a little better than JO did per minute this year. Kid hasn't even put bulk on or had his soph jump yet.

Is that how you would recruit as a coach? Put all your eggs in one basket and hope it works out? No, you put out multiple offers for the same position you're trying to fill to increase your chances of landing someone. Whether it's Porter, Lieb, or someone else, the team needs some insurance in the frontcourt. We have no assurances that Bisping's ankle or Silas's knee will hold up a whole season. And you know what happened the last time they were lost. The team would otherwise be left with WB, Fisher, and Long as the sole frontcourt players taller than 6'6. Patsos is committed to Long at the 3 the next 2 seasons. So you are not going to get the next Edwin Ubiles to agree to sit behind him two seasons. Next season is the time to land a stud 3. A lot of playing time as a freshman can be promised to a 2016 recruit due to Long's fouling issues, and then the starting job is available by said recruit's second season. I like the moves Patsos is making here.

Why can't we put at least 1 egg in the shotblocking basket? Just one...pretty please?
