There use to be a tourney over Christmas in the 60s 60's? Most people don't remember the 60's, but if they do they obviously weren't having as much FUN.

BTW, this guy is an idiot, GFCC holds what, under 5k people? If Siena even entertains this idiotic idea then any argument about venue size goes out the window forever. Dumb idea all around... Doug Sherman is far from an "idiot". Best total sports coverage in the area, plus a very good play-by-play guy for ESPNU during the season. If you don't like the idea, that's fine (I don't either), but no reason to call the guy an "idiot". Fr. Mackin at Siena supported the series when it started, to foster an improved relationship between the two schools as academic institutions, and as a favor (don't mean anything negative by that; it is what it is) to Albany as they were starting their D-I program. That's long in the past now, and both schools have benefitted from the series. However, the reasons for beginning the series in the first place no longer exist. And let's not go with the old "the game is played for the community". That's meaningless, irrelevant and immaterial. End the series !!! Each team can try to find another team to bring in for a home game, hopefully a match that will appeal to the respective fan bases.

I'd like to see the series continue, ideally getting back to a regular Saturday night that isn't too early in the season, and kept in downtown Albany's arena. If we need to borrow the MAAC's gray court, get that other announcer that isn't as into it, and move our seats around a bit, it's still worth it. What local sporting event outside of track season is more popular in this town?

It was either 1970 or 1971, I believe. Pre-ARC.

That is a concession that never should have been made. Definitely NOT worth it.

My prediction-the schools don't come to agreement! After a year, they will be pressured by community and business leaders to bring the game back! It comes back to the TU! Why do you guys need this game so bad? Isn't there another team you'd rather see on the schedule once in a while?

Why do you guys need this game so bad? Isn't there another team you'd rather see on the schedule once in a while? From a purely Siena perspective, yes, certainly. The St. Bonaventure game is more important. I'd like to see us be able to schedule Loyola and Fordham more. Holy Cross would be good. Or BU or Northeastern. Hofstra would be a good series again. But the crosstown rivalry with the huge attendance is a big deal. As a City of Albany guy, I like the event.

I do think it's good for the area and local sports fans in general when it can draw over 10K. Despite what some say, it is a rivalry. What hurts it at this point is that the TUC is the best place to play, but will always have to count as a home game for Siena since its our home court. I am softening my position on splitting the arena mostly due to UAlbany's rise, but hard to justify that when it has to count as a home game.

I just believe this game is good for the community -both of the schools and businesses ! However, if Albany wants jackasses about it.. fine.. sign a 2/1 game deal with UMASS, Providance or LaSalle!

In the year that we are at sefcu have a viewing party, make it an event, Siena can monetize it. The year it's in the TUC you keep every penny... Having this game at the TUC will draw even more interest in the years you host the game seeing how it comes around once every two years so it will drive the desire to go see it live. Having it at sefcu will do nothing to hurt interest in this game. It will also allow for you to schedule a team you otherwise wouldn't have not to mention and rpi boost being a road team.

Hell, even the TUC or downtown Albany could probably even do something with it with a party on Pearl, although weather very iffy.

pipe dreams.
my only acceptable option:
play the game once every four years. At the TUC. Siena keeps ALL revenue. Split the arena tickets (again the MONEY all goes to Siena). NOT included in Siena season package.
