I really like the idea of the tournament with joint ownership and responsibility. It think that could go a long way to developing the 'two team town' concept. Exactly have the 2 schools work together to further improve the CD college hoops market/product instead of against. each other. DArg and Benson should at least explore this option.

Very hard to get visiting teams to agree to anything like this. Almost no examples of this working anywhere else in Division I, unless it expands to be large enough to be an exempt event, but I'm not aware of any exempt events that invite the same teams every year.

Exempt tournaments have replaced the old ones. Siena dropped our tournament as it was too difficult to schedule, etc. The exempt status offered the ability to add extra games over the NCAA limit - more practice....

Nothing in the tournament idea for visiting teams- why would Xavier or Dayton give up a home game ( which they win 80 or 90 % of the time) not to mention the revenue they generate 150-200K per home game
You make a few minor tweaks to contract if Albany doesn't take it, tell them to take a hike

Yes and I remember attending along with the games in Mechanicville Siena and/or UA played in Mechanicville? I remember HS Sectional and even state tournaments there, but not college games. When was that? On the topic of HS games, I recall some of the great Mount Vernon teams coming to play there in the '70s' Not sure if the NYC schools (like Power Memorial played there). That gym/court was considered one of the best in the area back then and could hold quite a few for a school gym.

My prediction-the schools don't come to agreement! After a year, they will be pressured by community and business leaders to bring the game back! It comes back to the TU!

Not if we tell you first... ;-) If the game is discontinued it is a failure on the part of both programs. and, if it is continued it is a failure on the part of one of the programs - Siena will likely give up something we don't need to or UA will concede it's our arena.

Pressure has to come from the downtown business and political leaders to force Albanys hand! Why are you looking to force Albany into an agreement they might think is unfair to them...this isn't life and death. No big deal if the game doesn't happen, schedule an A-10 team or top half CAA team and you'll do more then fine at the box. We'll be OK as well believe it or not, I know you all think we REALLY need this game, somehow we'll survive not beating you again.

I gotta give click a kudos, very well thought out, intelligent, response without trying to insult anybody.
Siena/UA at Mechanicsville in early 70's.
