That staff actually brought a lot of good recruits to the table. Problem was Mitch was the closer, so they landed very few top targets. That's not on the assistant's. Look at this list of recruits Siena missed on during that staff's tenure posted by KK on the MAAC board - many of whom visited: Darrun Hilliard, Damion Lee, Maodo Lo, Andrew Nicholas, Brian Bernardi, Jordan Reed, Georges Niang, Kamari Murphy, Jerome Frink, Patrick Holloway, Charles Cooke, Brandon Taylor, Donovan Jack, Tyler Cavanaugh, Zach Auguste, Chavaughn Lewis, Kasim Chandler, Julian DeBose, Devin Coleman, Bryan Smith, Mandell Thomas, Emmy Andujar, Khem Birch, Kadeem Jack, Jeremiah Worthem, Andrew Chrabascz, Zaid Hearst You can't tell me this staff didn't bring 'em in. Mitch just couldn't close 'em. That's not on the assistants. C'mon the guy ended up at a D-3 school!! IF he was an assistant in any kind of demand you don't think he'd get a better job? Lots of recruits come to a school BECAUSE of the assistants, and not the head coach. For sure at the higher levels. BTW, Craig is as nice a guy as Mitch was. This is a professional evaluation, not personal. I never got the feeling Mitch was a nice guy. The limited interaction I had with him... I couldn't stand him...professionally or otherwise. Personality of a rock

Does anyone else see the irony embedded in this entire thread? The staff that many think needs to be removed/overhauled/tweaked is the staff that brought in the four (so far) stellar reacruits that everyone is drooling over. Their recruits are predicted to turn the program around, save Jimmy's job and get us a top 3 or 4 finish! These same guys are reported to be looking for a super stud transfer 3 to make us whole and relevant again. Funny when you think about it. I'm thinking the DBO is the only departure.

It is more than recruiting. Scouts this year were awful. And back on the recruiting front, you need someone on the staff expanding Siena's recruiting footprint from Baltimore etc. and i dont think people are drooling... Siena needed an athleticism upgrade, they needed some toughness and swagger... they also needed to get healthy. I believe theyve achieved those goals. Siena needs the incoming guards to be able to contribute immediately. They dont need to be instant stars They need to now expand their recruiting footprint AND improve scouting.

I'd be mildly surprised (nothing about this program surprises me any more) if the standards for the scouts weren't defined by our HC and each scout reviewed by him and the other assistants at a staff meeting prior to giving it to the kids. Our game preparation did not seem different over these two years so I'm guessing our HC approved the quality/depth of what his staff produced. They brought it from Loyola! The "drooling" modifier was added for completeness to encompass MTS's view of the class - the actual way people see the class ranges from a wait and see to MTS's drooling!

Thanks to all who participated in this discussion. For the record I wasn’t calling for all 3 asst coaches head, was asking the question to provoke debate which it did. Vast majority thought firing all 3 coaches was overkill and bordered on meddling. Thread also highlighted the concern many Siena fans have about quality of this staff as it pertains to player development and recruiting, game day scouts. And fact staff is too DMV centered – let’s hope the staff sees some shake up to address some of these area’s and if not Siena fans should hold Jimmy/Darg responsible – as this year probably is Jimmy’s make or break year. Program needs to get back to respectability. Not sure shaking up the staff accomplishes that, but given the overall weakness of this staff it certainly can’t hurt. I know personally if Jimmy can’t get Siena to a top 4 finish after 3 years, I will basically lose all confidence he is man to lead Siena

He seems to be saying things that reflect a lot of the concerns we've all, to one degree or another, voiced over the year and says he will be doing things differently. That's positive and what everyone wants to hear, but unfortunately his history demonstrates saying things people want to hear and then not delivering - as we say "Jimmy being Jimmy!" In fairness, we should give him the benefit of the doubt and look forward with a more positive view of the future - in reality, we have no other choice.

An online article states Lanier seems to be a coach at Texas on the hot seat. It said for Barnes to hopefully keep his job there an assistant(s) have to be dismissed. It mentioned Lanier was responsible for late game decisions and the success rate was quite poor.

The Status quo is not acceptable to Texas faithful. I don't think its Lanier per say, Barnes has under performed ( to Texas standards) since 2008 ( last sweet 16) so he is prolly gonna get fired next year anyway - so it might be a feel good story on Barnes walking away- fact of the matter is 75% of Texas supporters want him gone-- a death blow for any coach at any level

Im starting to think they are all coming back. I hope I am wrong or it signals a bigger issue that Jimmy is not committed to improving his program

I hope I am wrong or it signals a bigger issue that Jimmy is not committed to improving his program Jimmy doesn't look like a guy who is going to step on his friend's toes. Hes liked their recruits and coaching styles for 11 years. Nothing's changed except they get more money to do what they've been doing. Highly doubtful he makes significant changes
