If Clareth starts, it will be at the 2. As much as certain so-called "fans" here would like to see it, Patsos is committed to Long and won't be relegating him to a back-up role off the bench. He's Siena's starting 3 for the remainder of his career. I would have to disagree with you here. Every starting position will be won not given. This is D I basketball. Nothing is given without commitment, execution and production. That said I don't expect Long to lose his starting job, but that is not because he has a commitment from Patsos. not turning this into another Long thread but... If he is still playing as he did this year and is the best we have at the three... look for another rough year. I suspect you will already see a hit to season tickets. If the lineup isnt shaken up significantly/players like long work on some extreme weaknesses... you will see more fans leave... because the performance simply wont be there. I would expect Long to work on his ability to go right and to chill out with the stupid fouling.. if not, i would expect to see his time take a significant hit

I would hope patsos recruits an athletic wing if Lavon beats him out good for him I think all these guys need competition some of them rested on their laurels not enough player development last year not sure if that's on players or staff

Everyone must work on their weaknesses and improve or they won't have a spot in the playing group. Once again I believe the returning players will improve #PlayerDevelopment
Injuries were bad luck and uncontrollable. Looking for better luck with that next year as well

We lose poole and get 4 more players, plus two come back. If we are not a much better team next year something is very wrong.

Lavon is in jeopardy of losing his starting spot.
He can't keep on like he has been. He's only scored in double digits in 2 of the last 9 games. He's averaged 25 minutes per game and 4.78 fouls per game....and just 6.6 ppg.
Add in the turnovers, and a strong case could be made that Oliver should start over him at SF. Lavon hasn't made a 3 pointer since 2/2. You just can't have that kind of production and win...not when your PG is not a shooter.
Oliver has averaged 8.1 pts in 24 mpg but also has a positive assist ratio and doesn't foul as much.
Neither one of them is lighting it up on defense but Lavon is hurting the team in a lot of ways.
If Long can't beat out a tentative Oliver in overall contribution, he should not be a starter in this league.
If we have guys like Oliver and LaRose who shoot and aren't going to foul and turn it over plus a contributing Clareth...why should Lavon start?
Maybe he's struggling with injuries. But maybe teams just know him and force him into situations. The word is out on him...not just with the refs. He needs to greatly improve his all around game next year.
He's struggling as a 3. He's struggling as a 4. Bisping and Silas come back. Fisher is added. He won't need to play the 4 as much.
Lavon Long is now in a position where he's fighting to remain a major contributor on this team.

HJ, you keep referencing a 5th year kid, how can siena get one in when we have only one masters program and most larger schools would already have a similar program, so siena would not only need to find the right player, but also the perfect scenario as far as academics to even make it fly. A kid can always double major. Sure it would have to be the right situation, but IMHO, we STILL need a long, athletic wing that can score the ball.

Clareth will play the two or three depending on what plays out with the remainder of recruiting If Clareth starts, it will be at the 2. I know at least in football it has to be something your current school doesn't offer and has to b graduate studies.

He isn't dumb or loyal to a fault if he thinks there's a better answer then he'll go in that direction. I mean this is his livelihood. I don't know the answers are just that we need to win!

BOTH need someone to push them so they can get better. There was no incentive, or older leader, to push them this year. Both were lax, but Wright is playing the right position. I don't think Lavon is. He's a classic tweener at the 3/4. Bring him off the bench to back up the new 3 and Bisping. He'll still get 20-25 min a game and we won't have to worry about him fouling out.

Ryan Oliver has now played 11 more minutes than Lavon Long this year.
Oliver has 10 more steals Long has 11 more blocks. Long has 3 more assists Oliver has 31 less turnovers Long has 41 more rebounds. Oliver has 43 less fouls.
From a non-scoring standpoint, which one would you say is winning? You'd say Long had the slight edge right up until the fouls...then Oliver goes right past him.
Bisping, Fisher, and Brandwijk are all bigger and can shoot the three from the 4 position.
WB 21 stls, 13 blocks, 381 mins....6.2 rebs per 30 mins Long 23 steals, 14 blocks, 680 mins....5.4 rebs per 30 mins
Lavon Long could be now getting his wish. SF or bust. But on paper, it might not be too hard to see a bust here.
With a starting Nico Clareth, Long's ballhandling might not be as much of a need. If it's Wright + Clareth...what could be missing most? ....a shooter.

Loving the challenge. Off season work will tell the tale. Lavon is better playing with size than being the size. I have said that from day 1

Long didn't look like he had much, if any, confidence at the end of the year. When he plays with confidence he is a top 3 player on this team.
My guess is that he spends the off season working with Dan Taylor on his speed/lateral quickness.
