It's no secret I like Cain and I think he's obtainable. He has a lot of decent offers from 2013.. But the offers from 2014 we can compete with at least according to VerbalComm. If we could lock him up with Clareth Fisher Wormly what a class that would be....... In a perfect world I'd love to get Cain here, but I think we have a very small chance at him. We have no NJ connections, and he's got bettter programs involved. Getting him would be a minor miracle. It may not be totally true that we have no NJ connections. You are forgetting the almost certain staff changes at the end of the season. Perhaps someone is in the wings that is a known entity in that area.

Nico will add to our versatile arsenal along with Wormley and Fisher. Guys that can do more than one thing and play both ways Fischer or Wormley are not versatile or two way players like Nico. Wormley can't really score but can play defense with good length, Fischer solid skill big but not great defender that willl need get tougher for next level. Nico is ready and could be impact guy. He fits the role of guys who thrive in the MAAC such as Beamon, Chavugn Lewis, Zaid Hearst, Isaiah Williams, Malcolm Gilbert. Guys who can score but have toughness to compete as well. Good get for Siena. I disagree with your take on Wormley and Fisher.

PPC what’s your take on Fisher and Wormley ?I have to admit I pretty much agree with Slim . I think Fisher like most MAAC big men will take a year or so to develop (and get stronger) Wormley will give us 5 to 10 min a game backing up Quis, looks like he can defend, but he doesn't have much offense at this stage of his development. Nico should be "impact" player

Nico had the game-winning hoop in the last couple of seconds last night. Calvert Hall ties for the league title.

Here's hoping that Clareth has Casmir-like numbers as a Freshman and builds from there.

Casmir is so tiny and Nico is 6'4 and versatile. His numbers might not be as high as a freshman but his all around game is better than Casmir IMOP

He's going to be fun to watch. He's got every move Cole had and more. He's almost Wright-esque off the bounce. Plus, he's faster, more athletic, and blocks a fair amount of shots for a wing.
Dribble driving shouldn't be Siena's problem this year. Wright, Wormley and Clareth can break their man down. Siena is going to see a lot of zone played against them cause our guards are athletic but shooting could be a weakness.
They're gonna need to focus on drawing fouls and smart passing.
Patsos has to get the high post working again. Long, Bisping, WB, Fisher...whomever. Screen and roll. The bigs might actually have some of the better jumpers on this squad.
Gonna have to grind on D. Blocks, Steals, transition runouts. Guys like Silas need to anchor the interior D so we can cheat out to the perimeter more on D with our speed. Stop the threes while still having someone behind them.
The defense needs to go back to JP1 levels. We're not Iona. If the threes aren't a big part of our game, we can't just shoot our way out of trouble. Have to play hard and take advantage of our speed outside and experienced size inside.

The threes may just become a bigger part of Siena's game with this new crew coming in. Clareth and LaRose look like they can hit the 3 with consistency. Smithen looks like he's got a nice outside shot as well for the following season. We already know Bisping and WB can hit 'em at a pretty good clip for big men. And let's not forget what the streaky Oliver can do if he gets hot. Out of all those guys, I like the chances at least one consistent zone buster emerges this season.
We'll never be Iona on that measure - but I wouldn't want to be. When you live by the 3 pointer, you are often just as likely to die by it. Which is why when Iona's shot stops falling they habitually go belly up in big games, because they have no other attribute to rely on.

They took 50% of the threes last year and almost 60% the year before. Last year, WITH Poole and Hymes Siena was 325th in percentage of 3pt attempts (last in the MAAC) and was 55th at getting to the FT line. To say that THIS young athletic dribble driving team is more apt to improve on three point shooting over last year than at getting to the line seems far fetched to me. Smithen isn't playing this year. The way people are talking...LaRose neither. The only chance for more shooting is if Clareth is a superstud shooter out of the gate, Lavon starts shooting it more, and one of Paige, LaRose, and Wormley shoot at a decent clip on top of that all. There's a lot of big IFs there. Oliver can't take 300 threes. It may even come down to Bisping and WB jacking them. But do we really want our big men always behind the 3 pt line? Given Patsos' offense and his affinity for avoiding excessive threes and getting to the FT line, it is more likely that Siena attempts probably the fewest 3's in the conference yet again while probably leading the conference in attempted FTs. Look for Siena to lead the nation in FTs in their games once again. Look the games to remain just as choppy as usual.

I think Clareth can give us what Poole did last year from 3. At least he'd better. If here doesn't live up to the hype and become an impact player right away, this is likely a PIG team again. And Bisping is easily a better 3 point shooter than Hymes. So the question becomes, who if anyone builds on that? Wormley evolved into quite the scorer the final year of his H.S. career. Not sure what his 3pfg % was last year, but he may be a dark horse. And while Larose may need a year to be a rotation player, he's got enough to come in for spot minutes as a zone buster. He doesn't need to be Rob Poole redux in order to contribute this season - he just needs to be Scott Knapp.
Yes, I'm relying on a lot of ifs. But then again, didn't we all know going in that the whole season hinges on them? This team was never going to be good if it relies just on its veterans alone - they simply aren't good enough on their own as their career record underscores. The hope always lied in what the newcomers add to reinforce known weaknesses. Shoring up 3 point shooting needs to be one of them.

The hope always lied in what the newcomers add to reinforce known weaknesses. Shoring up 3 point shooting needs to be one of them. Wow, that is a lot of ifs. Fact is, Patsos has ranked in the bottom of D1 in threes attempted the last 4 years. He led Loyola to 23 wins shooting 29% from three while being 331st in attempts. If they defend, take care of the ball, and get to the line...they can win. They need the three but if everything else goes well, they could live without it most of the time. They have do what they did in JP1. Defend the interior, block shots, and rebound like crazy. They have to take care of the ball and force turnovers. This is now the best ballhawking team Jimmy has had. It's his longest and most athletic perimeter yet. We should get White-like energy without all the fuss of the turnovers and incredible offensive inefficiencies. They can win but they need to understand who they are and Jimmy needs to understand it too. Build on the CBI offense. Regain the high post. Play to the players' strengths. Press and block shots. Push in transition. The half court is not our friend.

LaRose just needs to be Scott Knapp. Just? If he is Scott Knapp we are excited little campers
