The good: I saw emotion last night. The kids played their hearts out. That's a good thing. I saw JO becoming a beast last night. That's a good thing. I saw Jimmy Paige have a breakout game. I believe he has a TON of upside and he is tough. That's a good thing. I saw portions of the game where the team spread the floor much better than they have of late. That's a good thing.
The bad: I saw bad dribbling and passing decisions leading to too many turnovers. What happened to our value of the ball? I saw frustration on the floor, two playmakers get T'd up, players in foul trouble being returned to the game with way too much time left ....That shows the opposition you are on your heels. I saw five more available fouls and a physical, defensive player dressed and going nowhere. I see little fire and regression from WB. Maurice is definitely so deep in the doghouse he may never get out. It's now so bad, JP doesn't even address him during the tirades. I saw a very physical game in which we gave the opposition 39 free throw opportunities resulting in our 10 point deficit on the line. Game over.
The ugly: I saw our suits (specifically Luke) take a tongue lashing from JP that was totally embarrassing.

I guess I will ask Greenblood (I didnt see the game). You say WB has regressed and no fire, Is that evident in just 3 mins? And were those 3 consecutive minutes? Less than 2 weeks ago he had over 20 mins in 2 consecutive games. In one game he had 8 rebs & the other I think he had 12 points. What has happened in about 2 weeks to relegate him to 3 mins? I know he will make frosh mistakes and our coach does not like that. But with the depleted roster, I think you have to, esp when we have so many fouls.

I wouldn't worry about Willem Brandwijk too much. Look at JO - it takes players 6'8 or taller a year before they become consistent in the MAAC. Same with Rossiter and OD Anosike. It is a rarity for players of that size to produce most games as freshmen. I've seen enough of WB to think that he will be a pretty good player for us as a sophomore and beyond.
As far as the game went - there are some positives to build on. What kills you is why did we not have this effort at home against Fairfield or St. Peter's? Well we just have to build on it and try and get a win against Rider Monday night.

But what is puzzling is to get only 3 mins in a game when 3 of our guys fouled out (including the other big), when just 2 weeks ago he had 20+ mins and decent numbers. You want to teach him a lesson about hustling - fine, yank him, but put him back in at some point to redeem himself & show that he learned the lesson, esp with the roster situation we had for that game. But that's just me.

Is he sick and JP only used him when he had no choice otherwise it makes no sense I thought this board would be happy that Long and Paige played a lot of minutes at the 4. JO grabbed 11 boards and scored 8 points in 20 minutes. Long grabbed 7 boards and scored 20 points in 34 minutes. Paige grabbed 3 boards and scored 10 points in 22 minutes. Something had to give, and that something was WB's minutes.

Certainly great for Paige, but JO fouled out with what 10 mins to go & playing 25 mins? And Long was in foul trouble. I just think we could have found more mins for WB, if only to preserve fouls.

Manhattan doesn't have a lot of size. JO was the biggest on the floor. They do have athleticism and quickness. This all made for a game in which Paige could be effective. When siena plays bigger teams Paige gets rebounded over as a 6'4" power forward. He has size limitations that limit him currently coupled with his current skull set as a four. I do really like that he seems really comfortable finishing around the paint.
So it's tough to call this a break out game. ..more like an opponent who's roster allowed him to be more effective.

And that's how he played 34 mins and why WB only played 3...had Long been in foul trouble or fouled out before 18 secs left WB would have played more. Instead Lavon played the 5 when JO was out

PPC's right, Lavons last two fouls came with under 1:07 left in the game. He fouled when he needed to, to get us the ball.

He had to play less aggressive defense to try to avoid fouling. That's a problem for the team. That's why the defense sucks. Playing 7 guys and 3 fouling out IS a problem.

He fouled out after Andujar stole the ball from him near midcourt and he tried to get it back earning his fifth foul. Lavon was visibly very unhappy at that sequence. It happens and was of no consequence to the game itself, just a kid trying to recover from an error.
