If at some undetermined, albeit too long, time in the future when once again Siena gets a real Head Coach, the Coach's Retention Fund Fundraisers will be massive sellouts at the Convention Center.

OK MP put yourself in the Siena administration's position - do you pull the plug after two seasons?

OK MP put yourself in the Siena administration's position - do you pull the plug after two seasons? Who said that? I said 'if at some time in the future' - as Tony so eloquently puts it, we are stuck with this guy until Siena gets tired or poor from playing .500 (at best) ball. That time will come but not soon enough - we are already in the give "give Jimmy next year" mode and that will probably be repeated next year and the year after, etc., etc. Others keep saying it will be fixed by recruiting - well we've seen one year under duress and one year in a more normal "hey we're rebuilding" mode and I see nothing to indicate that next year's crop of Jimmy's fall guys will be any different - same coaches evaluating players and recommending offers to the same head coach! What am I missing?

These post game rants are getting very old ! That's the purpose of a forum. Maybe you should stop reading it until at least the May signing period.

These post game rants are getting very old ! Don't worry, they will dwindle down and finally cease as people realize they are paying waaaaayyyyy to much (dollars, time, emotional investment) to watch uninspired basketball.

It would be totally different if the guys at least looked like they wanted to be there. Uninspired is a good word.

I keep trying to stay positive but it's becoming very hard! The Saints were completely outhustled against St.Peter's;the way St.Peter's passes(quick, crisp)the ball as opposed to Siena(floaters that are easy to pick off)is disheartening. Our players have to realize they have to do more than show up to games to become better. Our big men were pushed around all afternoon;Damn, get in there and start playing like you should be not giving up layups underneath without even contesting.there are players who do play hard but EVERYONE(including coaches)have to take a deep breath and recharge themselves and give a full-effort every single game.I know ,I'm just venting my frustrations.GO SAINTS!!!

What am I missing? What a different take on the head coaching position. I guess personality and personal relationships have everything to do with this situation, but it is what it is.

What am I missing? What are you missing? Well Mitch was here 4 years and you never called him out on the site. You, in fact, defended him for quite a long time. Please explain why Mitch got a ride for so long yet every post you make(and there are way too many on the same topic),this entire season you completely trash the head coach? Until you answer that question, and it has been posed to you several times without a response, I will continue to assume you have an axe to grind with Jimmy and discount your comments. Otherwise, why weren't you as outraged over the performance of our last coach as you are with Jimmy?

Otherwise, why weren't you as outraged over the performance of our last coach as you are with Jimmy? In all honesty, I probably put myself on the side of Mitch's defense early on, driven there primarily by the very early negativity citing his history at Fairfield that I thought was grossly unfair. I really had thought he was a much different person and since he was Fran's most valued assistant (in terms of X's and O's), I thought that would serve him well. I did not know much about the details of the Fairfield situation and given the number of years since it went down, I chose not to consider it - people do change. Mitch too was besieged by injuries yet they were never considered by his detractors on this board while many in the coaching community said he should have been considered for Coach of the Year given what he did with depleted numbers. I did see a side of him that I did not like on the practice floor in terms of how he handled players. Several of those instances were quite shocking and I had heard Mike and Fran strongly go off on guys in practice. Mitch went beyond them. I thought the staffing changes might help him - I thought highly of his original staff but always believed a promotion from within necessitated a change to prevent the continuation of peer to peer relationships that didn't exist any more. During year three I voiced my concern directly to John - this board was already negative enough. I do believe I posted a negative comment a few times but may be wrong on that. Jimmy came in as a known quantity and many, me included, had strong concerns before he coached a lick here. I opted to give him the same benefit I gave Mitch starting out last year - I wanted to believe that the Siena Program and resources might result in a somewhat cooler Jimmy Patsos, leading to a revival of where I think we should be in the MAAC. Last year ended on a high note - not as high as many would want but a note that we all enjoyed. That created high expectations for this year - returning everyone and a relatively soft OOC schedule amplified what have turned out to be totally bogus expectations. I'm not seeing a team growing AT ALL - rather I've watched a team come apart and see nothing to change that. I see him as a great guy to have a few with but I don't see ANY coaching ability PERIOD. Hope I'm wrong but I haven't seen one scintilla of anything to build any hope on. I'm tired of being in another wait till next year season.

Hope I'm wrong but I haven't seen one scintilla of anything to build any hope on. I'm tired of being in another wait till next year season. You don't see ANY coaching ability? Isn't that a little extreme? I mean Jimmy has won 24, 23 and 20 games the last three years. Everyone seems to want to poo-poo the CBI but the fact is Siena was 15-16, 11-9 (winning conference record) during the regular season. The team had no business playing in the Old Spice (0-4) during a rebuilding year. McCaffery went 15-13 his first year. Hewitt went 17-12. Patsos arguably was left with a lot less. I think Jimmy at worst got a B+ or A- for last year. Now THIS year I'd give him a C so far. Clearly he has not done as good of a job. Injuries have been a part of it but I would agree that something is missing - what I do not know. My scintilla of hope is that he is a WINNING coach. The question is can he get Siena where we want them to be - which is not at the Loyola level.
