Everyone is down on the a10 since we are struggling and frankly I am too. But, if by some miracle we were asked and it wouldn't impact our integrity I would be all in. From a competition standpoint I think it would be awesome even if we had to endure decades of losing seasons like the article suggests. I'm not on board for decades of losing seasons.

Doesn't = decades of losing seasons. If a pessimist like Steve had his way, we'd still be D3 playing LeMoyne & Merrimack all of the time. AIM HIGH!

From a competition standpoint I think it would be awesome even if we had to endure decades of losing seasons like the article suggests. I'm not on board for decades of losing seasons. Yeah I just value quality basketball more than most people--- which is not surprising since I am a fanatic after all. It is my contention that if we don't move up we will continue to see the quality of Siena basketball suffer due to the sheer downgrading of MAAC talent overall. This downgrading of talent will be due to the combination of the dilution of overall talent and the autonomy of the power five conferences. But since Steve brought it up, lets take a look at the two decades of LaSalle losing since they joined for the 1995-96 season: 4 winning seasons 1 NIT appearance 1 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance 2-0 versus Siena 1 win versus #9 Butler at home 1 win at #19 VCU An average of 2 games per season against top 25 competition Since 2000-2001 (14 seasons): 1 season in top 50 of RPI 2 seasons in top 51-100 of RPI 3 seasons in top 101-150 of RPI I would tolerate a lot more losing for the chance for a sweet 16 berth and multiple games against top 25 opponents each season, with some of them at home. I don't think we have had a game against a top 25 opponent with was less than 10,000 attended with the exception of the Stanford game in the ill-fated tarp era. Even though there were decades of losing, half of LaSalle's seasons the team was in the top half of the RPI. I'd live with that. The potential ceiling would be so much better and so would the value of the product overall. Right now we pay A10 prices to see NEC talent. That sucks comparatively. Attendance Records versus current A10 teams-- imagine more of these types of games instead of games against Saint Peter's and Rider: 14,084 UMASS (NIT) 11,692 LASalle (MAAC at the time), MAAC Tournament 10,671 #20 Xavier (now in Big East) And what if we did better than LaSalle? The right coach could compete in this league. To me it would be worth the risk.

You're running at a 4MM deficit already and it would take millions more to make the move. Rose & Kiernan have that kind of scratch to kick in? Please. It's a pipe dream to everyone with a clue.

Move isn't happening… but had it happened a few years ago, the money was coming from private donors to “make it happen”. Siena raised 50 mill for Expansion of ARC and practice facility -- I think you need to buy a vowel when it comes to Siena finances because you are clueless You have to have three things to move up—Facilities, fanbase and strong administration. LaSalle/Fordham never had the first two and that’s why they struggled , Siena has the first two but has had some serious “issues”/ mistakes with administration so that's why I'm not keen on it, lets win in MAAC first

Davidson is beating #22 Dayton right now at home, 64-49. I bet their fans are having a lot of fun at this moment.

You mean the project that's on an indefinite hold. Got it. 4mm in the whole and looking to go deeper. Smart economics.

But for our incompentent administration Siena probably would be in the A-10. Yes, tehr would be some growing paimns buta fter a few years "with the right coach" Siena would be competitive and the future would be bright. We are now stuck in a mediocre leagaue where all but a few schools get it. I hasnnt changed in twenty years, and I don't expectit to change until the NCAA Diav I basketball is foraced into the haves and have nots. If we don't make the move up by then we will all die disappointed.n

Fortunately there are no openings in the A10 currently so this is all moot. I disagree that a move up to the A10 would be all that expensive. I don't think it would be. We already have the required coaches for hoops...that's all the A10 cares about. The A10 is not a BCS league. Our budget is already in line - though mid-pack instead of top tier. Still it is doable. That said, Siena and many other private lib-arts schools are going to get squeezed over the next 20 years. Demographics and economics aren't in their favor. Now that the baby boomers have passed through there are literally fewer kids period. Add to that the price of school has gone up considerably and you have the makings for financial disaster in many of these schools that don't have billion dollar endowments. NOTE: When I graduated in the late '80s I could pay for a year at Siena from the money I earned doing a 6-month Co-Op. I'd now need to do 2 full years of Co-Ops to pay for 1 year of school. The ROI is getting harder to justify.
The admins are extremely fiscally conservative. Around the time of the 2007 crash they were getting ready for a serious downturn and I believe they're still in that mode. I doubt they do anything with any kind of risk. Unless Jimmy turns things around in a big way we should be happy that we're still at the MAAC level. It could be WAY worse.

The admins threw out a line and the Siena fanbase got hooked like a huge marlin. The belief that you think the invite was close is all they need for you to keep renewing and donating thinking it is coming around again. Just brilliant propoganda from the Siena administration. Kudos to them.
