Steve would still have us with Lanier as coach if he were AD...

I think had we stayed at the level we achieved a few years ago (note the artful dodge of not mentioning Fran - oops!), the article would have not been written or written with a different slant. Like it or not, Steve is on the money when he talks about the money and our talent level. We have to realize the TUC is a prop that we utilize effectively but it is not, in and of itself, a drawing card for an upward move in Conferences. The realignment of so many conferences has woefully impacted athletic budgets due to significantly increased travel budgets for ALL of a school's teams. For Siena moving into, let's say the A10, the impact would be horrendous and even a few more 1000 of us "fanatics" paying a few more $'s to sit downtown would never cover even a fraction of it. Our fan base, enraged by even the discussion of having to miss a game if Siena were to play at Sefcu, would be losing one of its hallmark qualities - having many, many fans at almost all MAAC away games.

Any conference move went into the toilet with our inability to sustain a greater than 5 year 1-2 finish in the MAAC. Even with that, looking at enrollment, academic profile and financial obligations that would follow, we don't fit.

I think there's 2 or 3 people still lobbying for it from time to time.

Steve cherry picked. The A10 would require more FT coaches but ONLY for hoops. Travel for the "minor" teams would also be minimal as the A10 doesn't force a league schedule for those teams (ie: water polo wouldn't have to fly to Davidson). Sure we'd have to pay coaches more but we'd also have a way better TV contract. Additionally, we'd be playing way better teams so even moderate success (top 4) could result in NCAA appearances. That would also result in better teams playing us AT HOME. We'd still have to recruit and compete against A10 teams, but, at the end of the day isn't that our optimal target recruiting base? Wouldn't it be easier to get A10 talent...in the A10?!?
He is right that the arena in itself doesn't mean sh*t and Albany only supports winners. High major losers can go scratch. There's risk for sure but what is it they say about risk and reward?

I guess Steve agrees with me then that we shouldn't have brought Quinny in based on their facilitie. Hey, it works both ways, right? And, nice way for him to get a dig in on Ali with her "least demanding schedule".

Agree with Steve almost 100%. Due to travel costs, mis aligned conferences Siena UA may someday in the next 5 years move. Look at the AE 9 teams, MAAC 11 teams, NJIT an independent. Higher major conferences need 2 divisions. No realignment is coming call it a 5 year plan. Thing that Steve stated is that schools must have commonality. Both respective conferences show that now, but both conferences way down.

There are still a few realignment stories trickling around. The Big 12, with its 10 members, could expand back to 12 by raiding The American, who in turn may need to expand again to remain at 11 all-sports/12 football. UAB is dropping football, and may get kicked out of the 14-member Conference USA. UMass is still trying to be a football school and would probably jump at the chance to join UConn in The American, even if the rest of that conference doesn't look like a basketball league anymore. If UMass left, the A-10 would probably want to replace them. What would we think if Quinnipiac nabbed that slot instead of Siena?

Were Albany to move to the CAA then the decisions in that league would be based on football and they would want divisions.

Everyone is down on the a10 since we are struggling and frankly I am too. But, if by some miracle we were asked and it wouldn't impact our integrity I would be all in. From a competition standpoint I think it would be awesome even if we had to endure decades of losing seasons like the article suggests.
