"We were headed for a championship before the injuries." PPC - I'm not so sure. We were better with Imoh and Brett for sure and we'd have won a few more games but we didn't look great in the beginning of the season even with Brett and Lavon. I'm glad Lavon is back and getting better (physically) but we aren't even close to a Championship team. Next year We'll have Brett and Imoh but lose Evan and Rob. From a scoring perspective that's a net loss. It may be again in rebounding and defense but it is tough since we're losing 2 back court and gaining 2 front court guys. We'll see but I'm not seeing a Championship this year or next year unless Jimmy bring in a class like Fran did. At the beginning of this seasonI for one, was thinking we'd win the MAAC tournament (that could be considered a championship). Heck we can still get good by Mar & win the tournament.

What makes the CIT better than the CBI? Maybe nothing. Impression is that the CBI selects last. I viewed the CIT as better than the CBI mainly because the teams are usually ranked higher & I thought it was around a couple years before the CBI. If we didn't go to NCAA or NIT this yr, I was hoping for the COT (at the beginning of season before all the injuries/transfers).

Perhaps. I always considered them equal. A bunch of teams spurn both tourneys so it is not even the best of the rest after the NCAA and NIT. However, I am satisfied with either tourney as a minimum standard for Siena basketball. Where I am dissatisfied is having losing records despite being in the MAAC to get there. As Patsos should know, getting to the CBI and/or the CIT is fine and winning it is even better, but there has to be a plan with an expectation of building toward the NIT and NCAA. That means solid recruiting, better schedules, winning home games, and winning maac regular season and postseason titles. It is not too much to ask for given the expecations put on the fans. I mean, I just got a brochure in my email asking me for $900 to go on a cruise with Patsos, for example. I highly doubt Jimmy doesn't have a plan for Siena's success. I also assume his plan/goal is to win the MAAC regular season and/or tournament. It's only yr two & no one expected this level of induries or transfers. Just because he may not publicly say it doesn't mean he doesn't have one. We'll find out over the next two seasons if the plan works or not. I'm going to support him/the team/admin just like I did for all the past coaches/teams.

I mean, I just got a brochure in my email asking me for $900 to go on a cruise with Patsos, for example. CIT is only for mid-majors, CBI takes everyone. CIT only considers team .500 or better - CBI will still teams slightly under .500. I think eventually they will merge and have one 32-40 team field. I agree the goal is the NCAA. Next year will be a big year for Jimmy Patsos. He has stabilized the program from the disaster he inherited now he has to make the program a contender. Recruiting two key pieces is critical for the future. The NIT now is about the same as the CIT/CBI other than it is the oldest tournament and you can get to MSG for the final four. But really if you're not in the NCAA tournament - you're in a tournament only the fans of the teams in the tournament really care about. That said being in the NIT means you won the regular season title thus it is ahead in the pecking order for that one reason alone. The losing record thing last year was kind of skewed because of the Old Spice - one reason Siena was still selected to the CBI (in addition to the willingness to put up the money). They still had a winning conference record and played well down the stretch. The CIT is still possible this year if we can be .500 or better overall after the MAAC tournament (assuming we don't win the tourney). This will be tough but not impossible however that Fairfield loss was a big kick in the guts toward achieving that goal. The road starts now...beat the Griffs!! Go Saints!!!

You're correct, I don't know the number of yrs for the plan but I can only assume again n that the Admin won't wait for an 8 ur so plan. My guess is it's a 3-4 yr plan based on what he was left with. We seem to have been on schedule or ahead of schedule up till the injuries/transfers. I'm willing to give him 4 yrs. But I was always willing to give Beyer, Lanier & Mitch more time so what do I know.

Sure, the question is is it a three year plan or an eight year plan? And why is it a secret? If you were in charge what would you do to fix the situation today and what steps would you take in April 2015? Hey I'm just a fan I acknowledge that. The first thing I recommend is to open up the practices. Leave an assistant in charge to check recording devices at the door. Anybody that violates the no recording rule would be banned from future practices. It is important to keep the diehards happy they are the backbone of the program. . After a win I would let the fan base know that the plan is to win the Maac-- stop trying to lower expectations from game to game. Leave the prognosticating up to us. I would play bis ping this year if he is healthy-- the program would build faster if the program was winning--- and I am concerned that the longer he is out others may start to break down. I would focus on replacing Poole and hymes- until the roster is beefed up I would not entertain transfers or red shirts or scholarships to d2 players like cam gotfried. If some coaching changes need to be made to make that happen I would do that. We need to maximize our opportunities to land 4 year impact players-- this will help sustain a top 100 rank going forward. Regardless, whatever the track that is taken hopefully the team can right the ship--- if not this year than next year. For the money I want Siena basketball to be fun again -- 6-9, 3-5 at home is not going to cut it against this schedule.

Winning the Cbi was fun and the losing record was expected. I would be okay with a 3-4 year plan assuming next year is the third year. The thing that irked me the most was the cole situation. Obviously I have no say but I argued and argued against taking him but was told the wait and headaches would be worth it. That's what makes it harder to let it go. It doesn't seem like recruiting is going well. I want to stay positive but it is hard.

I agree with most of what you are saying but I will surprise you by not agreeing about opening the practices. That is really a coach's decision and I was always surprised that we were allowed to watch some of the goings on. I was always uncomfortable to see a kid getting reamed, not only in front of his teammates but also in front of his fans. Obviously it didn't bother them anywhere near as much as it did me. Patsos needs to come across a little less like 'it's all about me' and more about what the team needs to work on without throwing kids under the bus. We know Ryan is in a slump, that Maurice misses layups, that Jimmy Paige may not know what to do on defense - we don't need to hear it as the reason we lost.

That's the important thing.

It might be better these kids understand this sooner than later not for a basketball sense but from a life experience sense. Jimmy's preparing them for the real world and not a fantasy/dream world. That's what I like about Jimmy. He's preparing them for life and not coddling them.

II am willing to give Jimmy some slack but what bothers me is how often players don't know where they should be in January. January! Either the kids are not that bright, can't concentrate or it's just too complicated. I tend to think its a combination of 2 and 3 and when you play scared you make dumb mental mistakes. It's like the year the Giants win the Super Bowl after Perry Fewell realized he needed to make the defense less complicated. Maybe Jimmy needs to loosen up so the kids loosen up and also see if he can make it easier to run- I think by running more he may eliminate some of these problems. .
