Girard is certainly one to watch. But it's still tough to project an 8th grader. Jordan Stevens was one of the leading scorers in the Suburban Council as an 8th grader, but only ended up at Holy Cross. Only?

At one time he was being touted for Georgia Tech and similar level schools, so I think the "only" is a comparison to that.

I didn't at all mean to belittle Stevens --- he was a great high school player and had a nice college career. But 8th grade phenoms typically still need some luck (i.e. grow a bunch more inches) and development (i.e. continue to improve rather than just getting to full ability early) to even get to Siena's recruiting level. Maybe Girard will get there --- in some ways, being a guard makes it more likely, since the height factor won't be as pressing. But it's a thin little zone we live in; he needs to continue to improve, without improving so much that he passes us by on his way to the BCS.

Actually, Stevens was 2nd on his team in scoring as an 8th grader, not a Suburban Council leader. And his game was all about athleticism, not skill. He never added the skill to his game. Girard is a skilled guard who needs to work on athleticism, similar to the last Glens Falls star. Who went from "the little fat kid" to lottery pick. Ignoring recruits because you can't see the future is why you lose out sometimes.

Is he related to the Girard us old timers remember playing at Siena in the mid 50's?

Jordan Stevens was one of the leading scorers in the Suburban Council as an 8th grader, but only ended up at Holy Cross. Don't think Stevens was close to scoring 20 a game let alone leading the SC in scoring. Don't think he even lead his team. At that point Stevens was seen to have a lot of potential. Yes he was still a very good player to have -- even as an 8th grader -- but he was getting as much experience as possible to help him develop. JG was best player on team as an 8th grader and was the primary focus of every defensive game plan. BTW Glens Falls is down to class B now so it will be interesting to see how creative they get in scheduling tougher games out of league going forward. Trust me, this is not a kid Siena wants to ignore.
