Quit being such Hyme haters people. So sick of it. Give the kid his due where he has "earned" it. I am so tired of hearing our own fans on our own home court and in these blogs, rip him every time he makes a mistake in a game or when his name gets brought up. I have never seen such a player who has done nothing close to attaining such negative feedback from its own fan base, than Evan hymes has taken from this fan base, and has taken it so well with such class.
It's undeniable that the kid is a senior "leader" (yes; a leader) who brings value to this team both on and off the court. All he wants to do is win. He has shown that he is nothing but a first class kid both off the court and to his teammates, both on the court and in the locker room.
Considering what his role and amount of playing time was in his first two years, he has taken his diminished responsibility better than any other kid on the team probably ever would, let alone any other player on any other team ever would. He is a constant cheerleader whether he is playing or sitting.
He's a kid who under the circumstances, could have chosen to be a virus on this team and in the locker room.
Instead all he did, was handle his drastic change in minutes and responsibility in his junior year and even further so for this year in his senior year, by never complaining, but instead by just going out and averaging 8.5 points a game his junior year along with having his best assist to turnover ratio (1.25) since he's been here at Siena.
This was despite the fact that after two years, he was on his way to being a 1500 point scorer at Siena and went from playing 35(+) minutes a game to about 20 minutes a game last year toabout 11 minutes a game so far this year.
He was and is still a good teammate to this new coach and this new very heralded freshman/now sophomore class who came in with such high expectations. Yet he knew no matter how good they were, they were still not upperclassman leaders. He knew he could still take on that roll. And he did and he has.
Now we have a "talented" senior who can make his free throws and is not afraid of the big moment and taking "the shot" or making the pass if needed be with confidence when the end of game situations come up and the game is on the line. That is a good thing people.
Yes, he no doubt has his own set of weaknesses just like many players on this team do, including Poole and Bisbing, but why not start trying to focus on what positives and value he can bring to this team rather than all the negatives that are constantly brought up and seem to be a main focus when this kids name is mentioned.
If we are going back to the NCAA's this year, and who knows, hopefully to the second weekend of the tournament, thats a kid you want on your team and getting 15 to 20 consistent minutes a game. He's a kid who, mark my words, will make a big shot/pass/free throw or two or more to help us on more than one occasion, get a win and/or help move forward in a win or out scenario where with him we win, or without him. we lose.
He is not the enemy people. He is one of us. He wants to win and has shown he is a true loyal Saint. He has "earned" his 15 to 20 minutes a game so give him his due. Start treating as such. He is a senior 1000 pt scorer who can bring great value to this team when they need it. Why not start treating him like the senior leader he is and start pointing out the positives he brings rather than always leading with the negatives and the sighs that come with every mistake he makes.
