I agree with SF that Coach Williams would not mention Siena's lack of athleticism as a problem to the media whether he observed it or not, and I disagree with PPC. I feel weird.

Everyone has their own opinion. I have been there. My point is not whether or not Williams believes we are athletic ... he clearly stated what it would take for us to win and athleticism whether we have it or not was not an ingredient. He was being honest. He gave an example of beating more talented teams with the ingredients he listed. Athleticism is relative to the observer.

It was not an ingredient because obviously Siena doesn't have it! Substitute talented teams with Athletic and you have it:
"He gave an example of beating more athletic teams with the ingredients he listed."
In terms of basketball IQ, I think Siena is as talented or better than most teams. In fact Siena will beat most teams due to their talent relative to the league they play in and their overall schedule this year. There is nothing to be ashamed about in this.... the team will be a lot of fun to watch and win a ton of games as long as they keep working.

I think too big of a deal is made over our lack of athleticism. I want good basketball players who know how to win games. Of course you want athleticism but if they can't play the game well it will be wasted anyway. Now it may hurt us in certain match-ups but our other attributes - size, rebounding, defense, basketball IQ, depth etc is also going to be beneficial for the team and help counteract our deficiencies.

I'll be the dummy, could someone clearly articulate what "athletic" means? "Runs fast and jumps high"? Quick moves (but not the previous two things), "outmuscles opponents" (and one of the other things).. something else? What does "athletic mean? You all toss the term around (sounding like you are parroting "talking heads" on TV) what does it mean?
