he needs to stop with the "teams respect the MAAC and would rather play someone else." They respect siena and the fact they are on the upswing again. They do NOT respect the MAAC ask Louisville if they respect the MAAC.

Typical coach talk, when you have a losing record and need excuses then Cole is the best player on your team and isn't eligible. Once he's eligible now we need to temper our expectations and he's the 10th man. I think a year ago at this time, Cole might have been the most talented, and impressive kid. Things have changed in a year. So many kids (especially at his position)improved dramatically. After Saturdays scrimmage, Cole wouldn't play more than Oliver or White IMHO.

At the end of the season I see White being the integral 6th man who can play 3 positions. I also hope to see WB getting 15 minutes because if he is playing a lot it will create more mismatches

I hope that means Oliver and White are that much improved and not Cole struggling. I said in another post if Cole is our 10th man we are loaded. Heck even if he's our 8th man that shows what quality depth we have. Legacy1⃣1⃣ @pat11cole Oct 12
Wasn't pleased with myself yesterday. Back to the Lab I go.Cole wasn't happy with his performance the other day. That is good that he wants to get better and will continue to work on his game. That is what competition will do. It gets players better knowing if they don't raise their game someone else is capable of taking their playing time.

He just needs to cut down on the turnovers!! He's our best option at the point when Wright gets a break. Can Oliver do it? Sure, but I don't like it though

Pat Cole is our backup.pg that also plays the 2 and 3. I tried to tell you guys not to take that best player comment so seriously. It was a compliment to a player sitting out without any games to validate the remark. Cole is still trying to fit in. His skills and versatility will help us.

A few highlights: - (I see MTS mentioned this in another thread, too): Siena will play 2 of the four "seeded" teams in the 2K tournament, so two of VCU, Duke, Georgetown, or Wisconsin. Then, they'll play two unseeded teams at Bryant. - Said people need to temper expectactions on Cole, that he's currently our 10th man. (While this may be true, I looooove Jimmy's pre-season depth charts. They're more volatile than penny stocks). - He said Starting 5 (established) then 6. Oliver 7. Hymes 8. Silas 9. White 10. Cole - Freshman are coming along. Jimmy Paige starting to "get it". If you believe that depth chart, then it means there's just one big man reserve and Brandwijk is out of the playing rotation. Sorry, not buying it. I also predict that Paige will supplant one of those listed players in the rotation due to his sorely needed 3 point shooting. Exactly. His depth chart a month out from the first game means nothing. That's why I love the specificity he provided; it's totally just a ploy to give the fans fodder and the players some motivation. It's fantastic.

This again speaks to guys like Cole, White, Oliver, Hymes being relatively equal despite differing talents. None are really all maac caliber just yet but each offer strengths ... and weaknesses. Of that group I give the early edge to Oliver. As Tony said, Cole gives you the ability to create his own shot and when he's in his game he can do so against anyone.

Oliver should be the 6th man until proven otherwise. He can do enough other things well enough to keep his much needed shooting on the floor. I want that 40% this year.

Yes I think he's taking the pressure off Cole. I don't think he's really our 10th man. If he is we are really LOADED! I get what you're saying when you are rebuilding the program you might hype someone up but even Poole (who is not worried about those things) said Cole was the best player on the team last year. It may be hyperbole but Cole is talented. You don't light up a bunch of BCS teams as a true freshman if you aren't a talented player. He needs to buy into the team and cut down on his mistakes and I'm sure he is going to be an important player for Siena in Jimmy's rotation which will likely consist of 9 main players. MTS, seriously. The kid has some fancy moves but he's wild. Oliver is controlled. Hymes is a proven senior in this league and the fastest guy in the league. Even I have thought Hymes' mins are going down this year in Cole's favor but perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe Cole is just the same guy he was at Coppin which shouldn't really be that much of a surprise to anyone. It could be still all about potential at this point. Patsos is right, he's transferring up, not down. And it shouldn't be a surprise if perhaps the 2 frosh leap frog him. Paige and WB have shooting touch AND toughness. And from what I've seen in video...good court IQ. They just started practicing. Think of past years frosh and what the coach said 1st week of practice. These guys could be lighting up practice a month from now after they've adjusted some. Guys who take care of the ball and play within themselves often rise to the top. Paige had a positive assist ratio as a frosh in HS..per maxpreps. He didn't seem turnover prone in his AAU stats either. He's super strong. He can shoot. He's athletic. A month from now the guy could have passed quite a few on the depth chart. Paige being good enough to surpass Cole and others will be nothing but good for this team. It always takes a month for the coaches to whip the frosh into amping up their motors from HS ball. I do NOT want to have to redshirt him. Notice Patsos also said Silas has started to play well. It takes him a month just to get out of bed. A month from now he could be dominating JO in the paint. You don't know. Like I said last week. It's sooo early. Good point a the top. Just because you can score points against a BCS school does not mean you play well with the team and are a good team player.

Today's Patsos on Wyland: www.foxsports980.com/onair/rodger-wyland-1777/jimmy-patsos-siena-basketball-coach-1021-12884918/Some highlights: - Cole, Oliver are coming on strong, Cole has been playing some 3 & 4, sees him as a match-up problem. - Jimmy Paige really coming along, becoming someone that could help this year. - Sounds like they're still pushing to get a game w/ Cuse, even if it's just a guarantee game at the Dome. - Talked about Gary Williams coming to town. Flying in today & taking off this evening, basically just coming to town to see Patsos & the Siena team, except... - Gary Williams & Jim Burr are getting together tonight before Williams leaves LOL. Wonder what Big Game Burr is like on a rainy Tuesday with no cameras around. - This Sunday 7 PM they're having an open intersquad scrimmage.

Jimmy mentioned potentially playing Syracuse in the Garden. I'd rather do that then going to the dome even if it would be a defacto home game for the Orange. Of course Siena would probably get more of a guarantee money playing at SU. Playing in MSG and getting exposure and on TV would be the next best thing if they won't agree for a 2-1 going to the TUC. Here's hoping playing SU at MSG will happen down the road.
Patsos also seemed high on Paige that he can help us this year. We shall see. A lot of quality depth at SG/SF.
