Before your time here but Downey tried a heck of a lot of those floaters.

For our fans from afar, here's a few tidbits about practice Tues. 10/21. It was yesterday's practice with Gary Williams. Practice as always was well run and at a good quick pace. Highlights and observations: 1. Our primary 3 point shooters haven't changed. Poole, Bisping, Oliver and Hymes. Oliver looks fantastic, shooting with extreme confidence. 2. Cole is going to be a versatile player, he's big and strong. Aggressive going to basket. May be able to shoot the three but have not seen in 2 practices any kind of stroke that compares to Oliver or Poole. He should be another weapon in scoring in half court play, his size and strength getting to the hoop. 3. Big men. The 5 is going to be the most interesting position to watch and see how it plays out. In the last 30-40 years we have had a few bigger men start at center but we have never had so many big bodies on a roster: JO, Silas, Brandwijk, Wolfe,Bisping and Merrill. JO looks good physically and is much more active. Silas is working hard to be more aggressive on D(more than just blocks). Both are dunking the ball with authority instead of laying the ball up. It seems to have been stressed in the offseason. WB, in my opinion, is the most complete player of the three. How that translates in real games I don't know. Brandwijk doesn't seem to be at all uncomfortable as a freshman, nor does he look like one. He looks like he's the best offensive big on the team. (not speaking of Bisping as a 5) I will be surprised to not see WB get significant minutes this year, and soon.

(not speaking of Bisping as a 5) I will be surprised to not see WB get significant minutes this year, and soon. The more skilled and controlled players generally rise to the top. Patsos has to give the returnees first crack. They are a more proven commodity under the lights. The 2 frosh both have fairly well rounded games, on paper. You don't leave those guys on the bench for long usually. All it takes is a few missed bunnies, turnovers, or blown rebounds from the guy in front and all of sudden, the next guy in line will get their chance. If WB could play even just almost as good on defense as JO, why leave the guy with the better all around skills on the bench? We should all remember that so many things change once the lights go on. A bad secret scrimmage or exhibition here, and struggling in the first game...and wham! you lose your spot. Remember Kyle Griffin was once starting in place of Rakeem Brookins early. Sometimes the real issues don't show up until it matters. When a game is on the line, who is Jimmy gonna want at the FT line....JO or WB? Little things like that. In practice, unless you're charting every stat, it's probably easy to focus on certain emotional plays rather than the whole picture. When you miss a shot in a game or the team puts up a big 'L'...changes are made fast.

I heard Oliver shot lights out yesterday. Unlimited range. That's my kind of player. Three point D took a beating Oliver was left open in the corner the match up zone needs work.

Oliver does have some great range. I remember in the Manhattan game which Siena won at the TUC (which started the 9-2 run to finish the season) he hit two bombs way past the NBA 3-point line. Neither shot was "luck" either both easily switched the basket. He is a weapon for sure and if left open can make teams pay dearly. He also was big in the win at Fresno State.
It will be interesting to see if he draws more attention which could open it up for others (i.e. Poole and Lavon/Brett inside). Perhaps Oliver makes another small jump if his knee is even better (remember he's only a couple years coming back from ACL surgery). I see Oliver giving us around 15 minutes a game and someone who can come off the bench and give us some much needed outside shooting.

There's no hesitation on his part anymore. He may not have Rob's array of shots but as a catch and shoot gunslinger, this kid is going to really do the job. And he's getting his shot off a lot faster also. Speaking of Brandwijk, I can't see this kid looking like a deer in headlights. I think there is a calm and a maturity about him that is going to help him handle early success. I think he is going to be a wonderful addition to our rotation. JP is going to play those that have been here and earned the PT but I think this young man is the real deal. I thought that about Bisping his freshman year but it took longer for him. WB has a skill set that Jimmy's probably going to want to use. This kid never stops working out there on the court.

Funny Siena gets more fans at practice than most MAAC team gets for games. And in the end that type supports burns the rear end of other MAAC teams fans. Nice to see Kenny Wormely and his family at event www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXMsnYPZp04

Not surprised - remember last year he hit the back of his head on the backboard when he went up to block a shot in a CBI(?) game.
