It is kind of amazing with all the great players and successes we've had at Siena we've never had a player who had more than a cup of coffee (Ubiles) in the NBA. Iona has had a bunch of guys (mostly from the 80's). Rider had Jason Thompson. Marist had Smits and Jared Jordan. Davidson had Curry. Hopefully we are "due" and get lucky and fall into an NBA draft pick down the line. Of course I'd rather have 4-5 elite players who aren't quite good enough for the NBA rather than one NBA guy and nothing around him. I was banking on Deters or Diop. If he applied himself, Downey had the best combo of size and athleticis

Fran hit a lot of home runs in recruiting (Kenny, Edwin, Alex, Ronald, RR and OD) CJ was a triple. Downey and Wignot were doubles. Let's forget the singles and strikeouts! lol Dont forget our last link to Fran-- Robbie Poole was a Fran recruit Another triple!!!

NBA draft picks come along to the NEC/MAAC about once every 25 years. Probably due in 2030. I hope I'm around to see it, if I can still see then.

They're all the same, right?

LaSalle had three players make it to (and play in the) NBA (one player each yr for three years in a row). Granted only one was a regular starter. So much for one every 25 yrs.

I meant that Ubiles never won MAAC POY and people expected him to win it more so than Siena's past three winners. In posts, I have praised the impact of Ubiles. He drew the best defender (often two defenders) away from Kenny and Alex, which produced wins and really helped those players to win their POYs. The only point that I was making was that Edwin didn't live up to most people's incredibly high expectations. I don't begrudge Edwin. It is tough when fans have such high expectation. He certainly had reasons (injuries and personal stuff) for not having a great senior year.
I'm probably in the minority on this one: But, I most enjoy seeing players who exceed expectations. For example, I got more joy from seeing Brett (a player that some people thought couldn't ever be a starter) win the CBI MVP than I did from watching Edwin's dunks in a championship game that everyone expected Siena to win.
I love that Siena has fans that demand excellence year in and year out and it is good when fans question the talent and athleticism level of recruits. Its the mind set of constantly wanting to improve. I love this trait in players, coaches and fans. Maybe the Mitch years have lowered my expectations too much, but I really like what I'm seeing (player wise) since Jimmy got here, so its hard for me to be negative about this group.

I, myself tend to pick a player on the team that isnt in the forefront and pull for them. Some of my past under dog favorites since 2000... Andy Cavo Tommy Mitchell Brent Sniezyk Al Fisher David Ryan (played his entire career out of position) Alex Franklin Chris De La Rosa Clarence Jackson Josh Duell (fellow CBA grad) Owen Wignot (played his entire career with no true position) Denzel Yard (an absolute shame he hitched his wagon to Mitch) Davis Martens (was waiting and waiting for him to break out) Maurice White Then there are those i beat like a rented mule. Reasons: Perhaps 1 dimensional, selfish, lazy, overrated etc and with the coaches... just flat out in over their heads. Loved Laniers recruiting. Hated his game coaching. Pretty much hated everything about Mitch... from day one. Jim Cantamessa Rob Lanier James Clinton (all that athleticism and no motor) **Michael Haddix** all time rented mule Kyle Downey (mostly Mitch's fault) Mitch OD Anosike Evan Hymes
