I understand why people wan to accept the status quo. If you control your expectations you won't be disappointed. I disagree with that attitude. If Siena and its fans don't keep putting pressure on the Administration then it won't happen. We have the facility and fan base to move up. If we don't move up then we will continue to recycle coaches and eventually get another PW. Let's keep the pressure on. I totally agree !! Hopefully people talk to admin at the meet and greet about moving to A10! Pressure pressure and more pressure people ! sounding more and more like pressure will do nothing. The money isnt there for it.

Have your seen what the Siena tuition rate now- its just under 50k per year! And who knows how much the college makes per year via other resources! I bet...if they made their finances public..the money would be found!

Costs would sky rocket across ALL athletic programs and basketball wouldn't provide enough for every other program. Plus Siena isn't exactly swimming in free capital. They have a frozen line of credit and are cutting back. Even if an invite came or if it already did, they would have to pass.

Before everyone finds fault with Jimmy on this, it is my sense that the school did not want to commit the $ needed to get home games in this or a similar tournament. The College stepped up last season for the CBI and did not have its best financial year as reported in the press. My guess is that the timing for another significant expenditure to get a couple of home games that probably would not excite the average fan could not have been worse. If money's an issue, why not simply schedule two guaranteed road games; or was the reason for the exempt road tourney to get some money (less than two guaranteed games) and get the extra total games? I'm not opposed to guarantee games, got to go to the Pitt game & others got to go to Kansas. I guess I should have read the TU blog before posting. In addition to Siena receiving about $100k: "You get the extra games , you get the TV exposure, Patsis said." I never thought about the TV exposure, that helps promote the program. I still wouldn't mind a guaranteed game each year or ever other year (1 or 2) against BCS caliber (with possible TV coverage - even if it's TW picking it up locally from the BCS feed (like the Kansas game)). I know the Admin wants home&home series, but if times are tough, why not a guaranteed game here & there?

It NEVER hurts playing the Dukes or Georgetowns of the world once in awhile. You get to sling a rock at the monster. Who knows what could happen?

Well if we are going to stay in tbe MAAC we might as well win it and dance every year. Like Belmont in the weak Atlantic Sun before they moved up. We've all been through this before. You're new to this rodeo. In the next 3 to 5 years we all will be cringing as we go through another coaching search... and the fact that it's been a crap-shoot thus far doesn't give me warm fuzzies. Perhaps Manning will be ready and want the job Why are you thinking about 3 to 5 years down the road and upsetting yourself? I am not new to college basketball. I just choose to focus on the now and enjoy the winning.

We think about 3 to 5 years because... The first time, shame on you.. The second time... And remember, some of us are not attached to Siena as an alumnus nor had a child that attended. We look at the basketball program as the business they intend it to look like.

I’m over the schedule thing, it will be nice to get the two games against the big boys, but the 2 games in Rhode Island suck. It wouldn’t have been so bad if Jimmy didn’t already have 2 dogs on the schedule in Cornell and Loyola - but as they say "it is what it is" ..lets win the MAAC 1st then we can bitch to Jimmy about soft schedule..LOL

Why all the heat for Cornell. They were coming off a three peat of their own. They were as good or better than Siena when that deal was made. The thing about the soft schedule it builds confidence and 20 win seasons.

I will appreciate every win. Like a three foot putt no D 1 game at Siena's level can be considered a gimee.

I bet...if they made their finances public..the money would be found! There was an article in the TU this week re Siena losing $4Million over the last fiscal year. They are cutting salaries (3%) and benefits (pension contributions by 3%) to make up the shortfall and instituting a hiring freeze. The BOT is facing some tough issues so any "pressure" that some may think can come from these ranks is already more than offset by the real pressure of financial losses. Probably one of the reasons the ARC project hasn't been approved.

th24, Nobody smart pays sticker price for college. The only students paying full tuition are the ones with very low SAT scores and very rich parents (or parents dumb enough to cosign on a $160,000 loan). Siena, like most private colleges, greatly discounts tuition. At some colleges the average student pays only 40% of the advertised full tuition. In other words, the average discount is over 60%. How is this possible you might ask. Very few of the scholarships and financial aid offers come from endowed funds; Most scholarships and aid are just a tuition reductions, i.e., discounts. A college with a $130M endowment is considered "lower-middle class."

A college with a $130M endowment is considered "lower-middle class." I can sort of confirm this. When I was purchasing my college basketball mags today I thumbed thru the Best Colleges mag. I was curious about Siena, which was listed on multiple pages/charts. One of the pages was detailed info on Siena and annual tuition plus R&B was about $50k. It also said that 77% of the students received financial aid which totaled about $24k. So only 23 % pay full price and 77% receive financial aid. Of course the scholarship athletes skew the $24k bag for the 77% but it's safe to say 77% don't pay sticker price.
