If memory seves, Siena has had 6 chances on a neutral court against "up" competition in Orlando, how did that work out? As for hosting 3rd and 4th tier teams, Siena couldn't fill the ARC for a championship game even with free bacon. Hosting these guys would be the real farce. My guess is Jimmy is taking the tournament to put "names" on the schedule, even if they are on the road. You don't get better notices beating Bryant at home but you can sell "we play Georgetown and Duke" to a kid who isn't going to get an offer from either of them. The Gonzaga Way.

Ok so lets say we get a decent seed and win some NCAA games every year. Will you be happy then? Nope, Final Four or nothing! I'd settle for round of 32, then sweet 16, & finally elite 8 for that 3 peat order.

Before everyone finds fault with Jimmy on this, it is my sense that the school did not want to commit the $ needed to get home games in this or a similar tournament. The College stepped up last season for the CBI and did not have its best financial year as reported in the press. My guess is that the timing for another significant expenditure to get a couple of home games that probably would not excite the average fan could not have been worse. If money's an issue, why not simply schedule two guaranteed road games; or was the reason for the exempt road tourney to get some money (less than two guaranteed games) and get the extra total games? I'm not opposed to guarantee games, got to go to the Pitt game & others got to go to Kansas.

The news story is and should be the eye opener here. The appearance is that financially Siena has been fine and even jockeying for a spot to move up, should the opportunity presents itself. The reality of this story is Siena it's biting off more than it can chew and perhaps a reality check for everyone is the years of Fran are about as good as it will ever get and to get use to Siena being more like Loyola and even UA and less like st Joes.
The past 4 years culminating with this news is a real eye opener. Siena is where it belongs and we should all come to terms with the life as it has been in the maac. All of those stories about Siena moving up and taking on the big boys... pipe dream. Siena not budging when all of the realignment was going on and the hiring etc... it's all making sense now

Well if we are going to stay in tbe MAAC we might as well win it and dance every year. Like Belmont in the weak Atlantic Sun before they moved up.

I still think there's a chance Siena will end up in the A10 if/when we are invited. I don't think the renovations to the ARC being on hold is going to alter that.

Gorvy, the school lost money on the CBI, which was more prestigious than the "consolation rounds of the 2K Classic and had less competition for the sports fan's attention. We are talking about the Final Four and the opening of the baseball season vs. the NFL, college football, college basketball and the prospect of Siena coming into that weekend 0-2. If people didn't't show up for the likes of Penn State and Fresno State, why should we expect them to do so for Bryant, Radford and TBA? I agree. I am grateful Siena put up the money for the CBI games last year. Though it ultimately took a ROAD win at Fresno State - we likely don't win the CBI without playing five home games. It will help us greatly this season in hopefully winning a MAAC championship and gave us a much needed winning season and championship banner to raise. BTW - How do they determined whether Siena plays at Duke or at VCU (in addition to Georgetown)? Is there a formula to it or simply to be determined/announced? I have no illusions about winning at Duke (homer refs) (too bad it wasn't on a neutral court ask Lehigh/Mercer!) but Georgetown and VCU - Let's go why not us? We're going to be very good (hopefully even better) next year too. Bring 'em on The refs don't scare me about Duke, it's the 8 or 9 HS AA's they'll have in the floor that night.

If memory seves, Siena has had 6 chances on a neutral court against "up" competition in Orlando, how did that work out? Actually it worked out very well in '08-'09. The next 18 games we only lost twice (@ Pitt and @ Kansas). Swept thru the MAAC tourney easily, beat Ohio St, IN Ohio, and took the overall #1 seed, Louisville, to the wire. Those three beatings we took in Orlando made us humble. Made the kids realize, despite all the accolades/expectations coming their way, they still had a long way to go. Last years 3 "up" games were also a learning experience, but of a different nature. All underclassman being throw to the wolves. Responded well as the tournament went on, and outplayed Purdue, but like most young teams, gave the game away at the end. Great experience that helped last years group grow quickly, and we saw how much better the whole team got as the season wore on. Winning their last 9 of 11, including a title that means little, but lets them know how special they can be in the next couple of years.

You're new to this rodeo. In the next 3 to 5 years we all will be cringing as we go through another coaching search... and the fact that it's been a crap-shoot thus far doesn't give me warm fuzzies. Perhaps Manning will be ready and want the job

I understand why people wan to accept the status quo.
If you control your expectations you won't be disappointed.
I disagree with that attitude. If Siena and its fans don't keep putting pressure on the Administration then it won't happen.
We have the facility and fan base to move up.
If we don't move up then we will continue to recycle coaches and eventually get another PW.
Let's keep the pressure on.

Another thing to keep in mind Siena has about 3K die hard fans that go to games no mater what. Belmont was brought up-- Belmont charged 125 bucks a season ticket. Hard to charge mid major prices and play a low major schedule, unlike Loyola who had very few fans- vast majority of Siena fans know the difference between bringing in Loyola and Cornell and GW and St Joe's

Of course, we would all love to see a move up. But more than basketball economics are involved. The school as an academic institution is going through some kind of financial struggles, like many institutions have been over the last 6-8 years. We have all heard the competition among schools to attract and keep students to sustain that institution. And a move up will be more costly and it's not just basketball expenses. We have to make the best of where we are right now and that means get back to winning and dominating in the MAAC. As a small private institution it's not a bad place to be, esp considering the finances. When the financial situation improves and the landscape is accommodating for some kind of move (competitively and economically) then hopefully, we can be in a better position to take advantage of it. But for now, schedule as best we can and "Just Win, Baby!". <Thanks MTS>
