Ridiculously early MAAC preview -- he seems pretty well versed in MAAC hoops. I would expect Saints to be first or second by most “prognosticators” experience wins in the MAAC and next season Siena will have it. Like I have said Jaspers lose a lot—Canisius is screwed and will return to bottom of MAAC . Quinny has some nice players in Drame and Hurst- but they lose their best player in Azotam and of course the two Shannons> jaspers lose an awful lot. Iona might have 3 of the top 7 or 8 players returning in MAAC- after that they are very sketchy- if they don’t pick up a player or two off transfer wire I expect a drop off by Gals -- anyway here is this guys top 4 for next year 1. Siena 2. Iona 3. Saint Peter's 4. Manhattan basketballpredictions.blogspot.com/2014/04/2014-15-preview-mid-majors-part-ii.html

basketballpredictions.blogspot.com/search/label/BP68Same preview has Siena as a #13 seed in the NCAA tournament (which to get we would need to dominate with the weakness of the OOC schedule and have some of those teams turn out to be decent). It also has Iowa has a #5 seed. Move Siena up a line or Iowa up a line and could we have an NCAA match-up between the Saints and Hawkeyes? Dare to dream! I know it is a long long way off but that would be kinda fun now wouldn't it? If Iowa won't play us in the regular season... We know the NCAA selection committee likes to arrange these match-ups in the big dance!

Yet another benefit of a CBI supported longer season. Instead of being one of the also-rans in the MAAC we became the MAAC long distance frontrunner and the looks from the prognosticators for next season will be more focused on the team than the end of season finishing order.

I agree...the CBI championship run will give us a lot of positive momentum and "buzz" for next year. If we finish at 15-17 we probably are still a top 3 or 4 pick. But with the CBI championship and 20 wins we will be picked in just about every publication for top 2 in the MAAC and preseason #1 in a bunch of them. I think we've got a good chance to be a top 75-80 type of team nationally next year. I am very excited about the future...and the good news is with a very good head coach and young stars such as Lavon Long and Marquis Wright this could be a very nice three year run and hopefully more if Jimmy can continue to recruit well!

I suspect Siena would have been picked fairly high without benefit of CBI—but no denying CBI enhanced our standing with media and prognosticators -- the way it stands right now at best Iona might be a slight favorite over Siena —but I also suspect Iona might be getting a few of those …..at the risk of pissing off Cluless..How do we say it “well-traveled” players ..I actually want Iona picked first let the gals carry the bullseye—

RPM is Returning Possession Minutes- and apparently is a pretty good indicator on mid majors. We all love to talk about incoming freshmen- but the fact of the matter is experience wins at Mid level- we dont get many "impact" freshmen. Every year we get 40-45 incoming freshmen in the MAAC and most years we get 1 or 2 that avg double figures. The MAAC RoY almost always comes from rebuilding teams that have playing time available. The good thing if you are a Siena fan- not only do we have a ton of "Returning Possession Minutes" a good pct of that is from freshmen - and at MAAC level the biggest improvement in a players career is almost always between freshmen and sophomore years. And of course MAAC big men almost never come into MAAC ready to play they just about always take a year or two to develop. Look for big jumps from our freshmen and Patrick Cole www.nycbuckets.com/2014/04/returning-possession-minutes-mid-majors/

Last year was really like his freshman year.

Last year was really like his freshman year. I think he still improves but is def not a sophomore this season... he is just like Hart as both had a sophomore jump. The first year was used to get accustomed to being a DI athlete so he was able to handle year 2 better in and out of the classroom. Now as a jr he should continue to grow as a student athlete with two years under his belt. I dont believe the growth stops if you dont play...a year of college learning how to manage your time etc... is the biggest benefit of freshman year and why kids make that jump the second year regardless of PT

There were a lot of new ins and outs to get used to.

Getting back to Ryan Oliver- he could make a jump and it has nothing to do with sophomore jump- more to do with his health- as the year went on it looked like Ryan was moving better than ever at Siena- with another year past his knee injury we could see even more improvement in his speed which of course would help his game

I think the jump for Ryan is playing the way he did the last 8 games for an entire season / that alone wold be big
