We're in a one-bid conference. I want a tough schedule that gets us ready for that one meaningful week in March. Nothing else really matters. Fran's 3rd yr (Corrected to 4th yr) when we played one of the school's all time hardest OOC's the rumor was Siena would have rec'd an at large if we didn't win MAAC tourney . So if we can only loose 1 or 2 in conference & load up on OOC Jimmy's 3rd yr (win some & keep losses close ) why couldn't we be in a position for another possible at large bid ?

Do you mean third year or fourth year? We were a 13th seed vs. Vandy in year 3. Almost impossible to think that we would have received an automatic bid. The fact that we were seeded 9th the following year vs. Ohio State would suggest that that year would have resulted in the automatic bid.

MAAC has been around since 1980. How many times has the conference received more than one bid? Maybe three times?

Not sure, but I believe twice: Manhattan in 1995 and Iona a few years ago.

We are in that mode being the first MAAC team to win a post season tournament. Things that are rare are fair game for this team. It has been done twice we can make it a 3rd time. We have to rebuild the brand and gain respect by winning games.

We're in a one-bid conference. I want a tough schedule that gets us ready for that one meaningful week in March. Nothing else really matters. I HATE that low-major mentality...it's all about three days in March etc. That's what Will Brown or these clueless media guys say. College basketball is a four month season. It's more than just a three or four days in March. MAAC teams have gotten at-large bids. It's very tough but possible. You have to be DOMINANT but it CAN be done. Fran's last two teams would have gotten them had we lost in the MAAC tournament. Plus you need to put up a good season in order to get a good seed in the NCAAs should you get into the big dance. Look at Rob Lanier's first year... bad year with a nice finish to it. A 16 seed (or PIG) and automatic loss like UA this year. Lanier's second year was much more successful overall but the team only went to the NIT. If you don't finish 1st or 2nd your odds of winning the MAAC championship go way down. How does our MAAC record reflect on our OOC schedule/results?? WE already have 20 guaranteed games within our conference. I'm saying play really good teams in our OOC schedule, not cupcakes to improve our record, because it won't help us get a 2nd bid, but it will get us battle-tested for the 1st week in March, and hopefully beyond.

If you are going to play a Patriot League team, which doesn't improve your SOS, why Bucknell, especially home and home? Renew the series with Holy Cross which is only 2 hours down the road and has a lot of alumns in this area. Now that both Fran and Ralph Willard are gone, there is no reason not to renew this series. Us old folks know of the hoops history of Holy Cross, (Bob Cousy, 1947 NCAA and 1954 NIT Champions) and you choose Bucknell instead. Doesn't make sense. What does Bucknell bring to the table?

I think it is pretty obvious if you folllow college hoop in more recent times.............Holy Cross is not a very good program, they are a very low major.............Bucknell has had a recent history of success and is typically at the top of the Patriot league year in and year out, plus they have beaten some higher profile teams as well.......................a good mix for Siena would be to schedule some other top mid-majors, and in those they could get home and home, then slot in some bigger name schools from the BSC leagues of which some could be guarantee games, while others you likely have to shoot for 2 for 1's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must have forgotten Fran's 1st yr, but was trying to reference our 9th seeding. In that year the tough OOC schedule helped us even though we lost most. I think the idea that we competed with all the BCS schools helped us.

When Siena has played OOC games in weaker conferences I believe they try & schedule top 3 teams in that conference. Obviously there's always exceptions, but at least they're not trying to schedule cup cakes.

The MAAC has never been a true multi-bid conference, in the sense that we've never had two teams that were getting into the NCAAs regardless of who won the conference tournament.
On the other hand, we've had a bunch of teams that were good enough for an at-large bid, such that if they lost the conference tournament they would have still gotten in. Obviously, the years it happened with Manhattan and Iona, but also Siena in 2010, definitely Lasalle in 89 and 90 (and maybe 88), and maybe Iona in '85,Fairfield in '86, or Manhattan in '03 (but those are less likely).
Still, having one great at-large worthy team doesn't really make you a two-bid conference, in my mind.
