This post is going to come off as sour grapes so hence the title. Now that it is out of the way, why does the conference need 11 teams? It is still a one bid league. Each team is now 10% less likely to make the NCAA tourney. Quinny at least had a better year then I expected but are in their typical year end tailspin. What is the point?and the answer better not be we need a 12th team. Njit anyone?

C’mon Gorvy you know the answer to that question – in this age of conference realignment the MAAC had to hedge their bets. Both additions were solid for MAAC and they fit in quite nicely with other MAAC teams not named Siena- similar profiles- Budget wise, attendance, fan interest media interest etc

And I'm not just talking about Siena - Fairfield has been rumored to be interested in PL - MAAC has already lost Loyola to PL. Smart move by MAAC - think both additions were good ones for MAAC. Would I have liked to see the MAAC look at teams like Northeastern, Hofstra and or Drexel yes..but MAAC had no interest in those programs

Scheduling is easier - two less OOC games for the MAAC at 11 teams. Moving to 12 teams would support a tournament with the top 4 getting first round byes giving an equal advantage to finishing in the top 4 - right now both 4 and 5 are fully rested when they meet. At our level the downside is bringing in teams with minimal name recognition - many people saw Monmouth and Quinnipiac as NJIT equivalents. not worthy of the MAAC - and griped before we actually played them. Turns out Quinnipiac surprised a lot of locals who don't follow college hoops to the extent many on this board do. Ditto for Monmouth.

Add 5 more teams and make it even Steven. 30 games plus ualbany. Who needs IOC games when you can play njit, Wagner, holy cross, army, and Colgate?

Barking dog meet wrong tree... My bet remains on Siena being in another league within then next 18 months so the MAAC hedging it's bets makes sense to me.

We could also replace one closed scrimmage and schedule an exhibition with RPI - that would be the closest thing we'd have to a real RPI with the 31 games you posit!

With the RPI pre-ordained, we might as well hold the year end banquet before the season starts- it would be a great way to celebrate the accomplishments of the season upfront rather than have to wait all that time.

I think Monmouth and Quinny were great additions. They bring great facilities to a league that has among the worst in the country. Quinny has the makings of a perennial power, so they help the power rating. As for why they were added - insurance. You want to guard against being raided. MAAC would be at just 9 now had the league not acted. And it's a good bet someone else could depart before the end of the decade.

Best facility in league (not counting Siena and Fairfield). They will be good again next year. they stream their home games for free on you tube (not sure if all) and they pay to broadcast some home games on SNYTV. Hopefully some programs feel the pressure and upgrade their facilities. I know you cant compare the A-10 and the MAAC but while the A-10 had 7 teams in the top 100 rpi this year the MAAC has 3 out of 11 in top 100 and recently had 4. not bad for a small mid major league. As of today the MAAC is the right fit for Siena. Let Patsos build up the program and contend and win the MAAC and when/if the A-10 comes calling the program is situated to make the proper decision

I'm really frustrated with the Maac. I would very much like to step up in class and join a better league, but I recognize that an offer has to come before we can move. There is a chance that an offer will never come. If this is the case what can the Maac do to make itself a better league? I would like more programs that are dedicated to winning games/titles/tournaments. With that said one of the biggest weaknesses (and some may say its a strength) is the Catholic underpinnings of the league. I don't mean to drag schools like St Peters through the mud, but they are out over their ski's competing in the Maac. They really should be in a lesser league. If we are going to be in the Maac for a while (and unfortunately I think we will be) I would like to see D'Arg and the admin make a case that we should try to bring in programs like Robert Morris that spend money on their athletic budget. I know they are a Maac outlier (3:30 from buffalo) but at least they try and compete. I would rather have a program like that in the Maac then some of the trash that is in the league now that are content to spend a little and wait for programs like ours to spend more with the hope that we advance in the march madness tournament which they will benefit off of. It's welfare.
I know the Maac would never take a strong stance like that because its Un-Christian, but it would be nice to expect more from the rest of the league.
