It is interesting to read the fans that won't go because the tournament is in Springfield and not Albany. Does that mean they would never support the team if and when we move to the A10 or another conference? Seems to be self-serving act and not one of support for the team. Springfield is a lot easier (and cheaper) than a weekend in Brooklyn, for example. Couldn't agree more ... These kids played their asses off this year and deserve to be supported.

Some of the hard core fans chose not to attend to make a statement -- and hey it worked .

It's a no brainier that tournament will never draw outside of Albany Ensor had to cave because of bitching from other schools. It was just a matter of time. The same thing will happen again if we stay in the MAAC and start to win .... Hopefully we're A10 bound .... But we'll be traveling to NYC. at yr end .....

I'm fine with NYC --- it makes more sense then holding it in a state that didn't have any teams. It was the last straw for me as a maac fan--- a bush league move designed to stick it to the only team that consistently brings revenue to the league. In the maac it had been proven time and time again that the only school to draw was siena. A rotation amongst a few schools made sense. If the a10 comes along part of the upgrade is fan interest across the board to hold a neutral site tourney. Also in that league there are opportunities to make the tourney without the championship. Look at what the maac did to itself --- no tv until the finals-- brilliant!

They moved it to a big arena as close to albany as they could in hopes to still draw from the pool of siena fans. And it IS an advantage as everyone here is excited its coming back to albany as this young team develops

As far as going to Springfield, not an area to bring a family. While I have not heard of any major comcerns I know the city is tough.
Going forward, the maac admin finally got smart and returned to where the money is. They just got lucky that the AE wasn't intelligent enough to tie up the TUC, when they made their money loosing move to Springfield. Thank the stars the Maac is actually better managed than the AE. Imagine having the tourney schedule the AE teams face next year. All because of the home court of UA. Maac being better managed than AE is scary for some schools.
Hopefully Siena will have an invitation to another league. More importantly the administration will be willing to move forward with such an invitation.

This was as obvious as Mitch being a horrible hire to me at least. They tried Bridgeport. They tried buffalo. They tried Trenton. They tried some multiple times... AND THOSE TOWNS HAD MAAC TEAMS. They ALL failed in comparison. It was a deliberate snub to the advantage we provided by supporting the saints and the maac in droves. They even moved it out of Albany AFTER ALBANY BAILED THEM OUT OF TRENTON So forgive me but the maac deserved nothing more than a middle finger

I went to every MAAC tournament except Trenton. I'll continue to go to each tournament (what ever conference Siena is in) regardless of location.
The players & coaches need our support.
I do agree that I prefer some locations over others (Bridgeport, Buffalo, TUC) and I liked some coaches better than others (Deans, Hewitt, Fran & Jimmy) but I love the teams & players more and can't imagine never not showing my support.
I'm not referring to fans who can't make it (money, family obligations, work , etc.) but rather fans who can and choose to boycot for what ever reasons. It's your right but I guess I don't understand it .

It isn't "tough". Who told you that? It has its nice areas and not so nice areas like any other city, but it's hardly scary. You probably think Arbor Hill is "tough" too. You upstaters have amusing perspective. Let me spend a night giving you a tour of the South Bronx or Bed Stuy. I'll show you what "tough" really looks like.

Think he was just referring to how Springfield is one of the worst major metropolitan areas i the country as far as crime goes. There are certainly good and bad areas though, you're correct.

I will be there Saturday and Sunday. If Siena makes a run to the finals I guess I will have to make the trip back out on Monday after work.
