I know I'm jumping the gun a little but assuming Siena finishes 5th and we win the first game against the 4th seed, there's a good chance Siena will need to go through it's MAAC Tournament nemesis (Iona) in the semi-finals. Assuming Iona gets past the 8 or 9 seed in the quarter finals.
MAAC history shows Siena has never beaten Iona in a Tournament game (came close but never won). This could be the year we get over that obstacle.
< Disclaimer I looked this up quickly so hopefully I didn't screw it up the numbers. >
Iona will be the #1 seed.
#1 Seeds have only one less than 50% of the time.
Iona, LaSalle, Manhattan & Siena all with 3 each. Fairfield & Niagara with one each. That's only 14 over the past 30+ years.
Good news. The #5 seed has made it to the finals at least 3 times and two were MAAC Champions.
1999 - St. Peter's the last #5 made the finals (lost) 1996 - Canisius #5 (won) 1994 - Loyola #5 (won)
Two #7 Seeds have won before. We all know the only team ever to win 4 games in a row.
2002 - Siena #7 (won) *Needed to win 4 in a row. 1987 - Fairfield #7 (won) *Only needed three games to win (MAAC much smaller back then).
2014 History:
Can Siena finally beat Iona in a Tournamnet game? Can Iona become the first #1 seeded team to win it a 4th time?
Stay tuned next weekend for the outcome.
Same Bat time. Same Bat channel.

Where can I sign for that match-up right now??
One at a time...Quinny is a 7.5-point favorite tomorrow so this will be a HUGE test for our Saints.

Just wondering why you would sign up for that match up? Iona is hands down the worse match up for the Saints. Cant guard them. Would rather play any of the other top 4

Forgot that meant probably a win over Canisius the night before

I agree about the one game at a time, but if we're to try & make the Finals, We'll probably have to go through Iona (unless they loose in an earlier game).
We have yet to beat them in tourney. It can't stay that way forever, I mean at some point we'll beat them.
Since this yr is the 30th (correction 20 yrs, I wasn't even drinking last night) anniversary of a 5th seed winning the MAAC tourney, I was hoping we could do it as a 5th seed this yr.
Go saints!!!

If we get to the Sunday of the MAAC tourney, I don't think that there's a Siena fan that wouldn't be thrilled.

I agree, and maybe the people on the fence thinking we're not quite there yet will join me (us) on the band wagon. If course I never seem to get off the band wagon. I must be lazy & don't like to walk.

KnickSaint reminded me that I can't count. It's the 20th anniversary if the first #5 seed winning the MAAC tourney. I wasn't even drinking last night when I calculated 30 yrs incorrectly.

Between the addition of Quinny and what I expect to be a much larger Siena contingent, it will be interesting to see what the attendance numbers are like in Springfield this year.
