Nope, he was a D-1 assistant for more than 10 years, and has recruited hundreds of kids in that time for a level very similar to Siena. So I'll listen to what he says, at least until I see him play.
Have you even seen the kid play?
ps--don't get up in the numbers game. Most of these kids numbers are embelished to improve their recruiting standing. Plus I'm sure you have no idea what ttype of competition he's doing this against.

I know - you think a platoon of Cole and Hymes are the better option. Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with you there. If Wright goes down the season would be over, as neither of those two are capable of playing the 1 full ltime. You saw what happened against Iona when Wright fouled out. The team needs insurance behind him and he needs to stop logging so many minutes or he's gonna wear out. We need a high scoring guard who can play most of his minutes at the 2, and also be able to slide over to the 1 just as capably as Wright. I know of no one else presently on the team that can do both as well as Taplin. I respect your opinion. .I said he is not a pg for our system. So do you think we need to recruit over the combo guards that we have? I dont...I believe they will improve and our system involves passing and cutting..our pg starts the offense in the halfcourt set and does not dominate the ball..everyone touches it in the flex offense. .That's why Oliver has played pg in spots for us...and when Hymes plays it the way it is designed he comes up with 7 assist....I dont deny the kid can play I just think he is more of a 2g and we have several What I think we need to do is less relevant than the plain facts. And the fact is we've already started recruiting over the guards that we have as you can plainly see. That's why Patsos sought Paige who has committed, and an offer is out to Taplin. Surely you don't really believe recruiting for 2014 is done with Paige. I believe Patsos is just getting started.

You saw what happened against Iona-- Siena fans are not looking to finish 3rd or 4th- we want to win the MAAC and that's not going to happen with Oliver - Hymes running point

Mitch Buonaguro has an even better resume than that - would you listen to what he has to say about a recruit at this point? So far we've got GG and your guy not thinking much of Taplin. The professional scouting gurus seem to have a more favoble opinion of Taplin, and while their word certainly isn't gospel, I'll go with the majority opinion. To answer your question, no, I have not seen him play. But Patsos has, and saw enough to make Taplin a priority recruit, so that's enough for me to be convinced he can help fill the team's needs. That's not the same thing as me thinking he'll be a superstar.

Did he do it when Wright fouled out vs Iona?

RJ and Wright are perfect examples of a Patsos pg...glad we have Wright for 3.5 more years and with the mins he plays it will be hard to find a good one willing to sit behind him

Siena needs another point guard, but a truly capable point guard will not sign on to get 5-8 mins a game behind Wright for three years. So the best option is a combo who is more of a 2, but is capable at the point. If Cole can't do that, we have seen that no one else on the roster can do it at the level necessary to be a contender. So a player like Taplin should be a priority. Bottomline, Patsos has identified Taplin as a priority. If we put more trust in a friend who has recruiting experience than in Patsos, we have the wrong coach. Just my opinion.

We would be fine if Wright stays healthy next year and doesn't foul out ( like Iona game) if that happens and Siena posts another losing season Fans will start to turn on Jimmy.. this is a business and he needs to put a winner on the floor -- so while you might be willing to 'gamble" Jimmy's livelihood- I highly doubt Jimmy will do that

Maybe there was no offer and the recruiting sites are all wrong. That could be, but I tend to doubt it.

That happens sometimes not saying it did in this case...MMs try and get kids signed early before they blow up...they get nervous when a kid wants to play through senior year and puts the pressure on to grab them....it just looks to me that the staff felt they needed to protect themselves and allowed Paige to commit rather than take a chance of losing him and not getting Taplin...just a guess

It was blatantly obvious when we played Canisius, Iona and Manhattan we dont have enough talent to compete with top MAAC level teams. Hang on Siena fans the fun is just starting..
