Hate to be a wet mop on this kid, but someone I trust very much says Taplin is "ok." We treat him like he's some kind of savior out here. I'll reserve my judgement until I see him myself in person. I hope he's better than Hood, because I DO love his game!! Interesting take, I do think Taplin is much bigger than Hood( is Hood even 6 foot?) and that may have played a part in decision --Taplin is a legit 6'2" and long so can play the 1 or 2. With Wright ( what is he 5'9") I would think we want a bigger guard-- but just a hunch on my part. I'm not wedded to fact it has to be Taplin-- just a player like him capable of playing the 1 or the 2 at a high level- and lets face it with Wright cemented in at 1 its not going to be easy

Hood is all of 6'2", and can shoot lights out. Think Green Tech is playing A.A. at the ARC on Sun Jan 26th. Check him out. I think he was exactly what we needed. Too bad he got out of town.

Saw him play last year--wish I got the game when Taplin's team came into town ( last year)I always liked Hood's game. Not sure if Hood wasn't interested in us or other way around

If he's just okay to you guys, all I can say is wow, tough crowd.

I said a guy I respect a lot said he was "ok." Those stats don't mean much to me. Hood could do that every game if he was on a team that wasn't loaded. No one said he wasn't good, but let's be honest, the fans on this board are acting like if we get him, the MAAC title is ours. I just wanna see him in person before I comment on his game.

Siena is in need of a someone capable of scoring AND filling in part time at the 1. No where does that cry out that Taplin is a star. He is fairly highly ranked which adds to what we have seen/heard of him. Throw in Cole and maybe another big... this team begins to have a complete roster.

I agree with that and will also say no sense of crying over spilled milk- I have no idea if Hood wasn’t interested in us or we weren’t interested in him – but either way he is pledged somewhere else. I also have no idea if we get Taplin of not. But he does seem to fill a need for us, and it’s not going to be easy to get a kid that fills that need- a kid that is good enough to play the point and/ or good enough to challenge for the starting 2 spot. Keep in mind PPC will not be for this signing since it will solidify Patrick Cole at the 3 and of course he will be backed up at the 3 by Paige

I just dont think he is a pg for our system. I know - you think a platoon of Cole and Hymes are the better option. Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with you there. If Wright goes down the season would be over, as neither of those two are capable of playing the 1 full ltime. You saw what happened against Iona when Wright fouled out. The team needs insurance behind him and he needs to stop logging so many minutes or he's gonna wear out. We need a high scoring guard who can play most of his minutes at the 2, and also be able to slide over to the 1 just as capably as Wright. I know of no one else presently on the team that can do both as well as Taplin.

Well I hope this guy you respect doesn't earn his living in the scouting business. Because based on the numbers I'm seeing Taplin put up night after night, he appears to be a little bit better than just okay.

So do you think we need to recruit over the combo guards that we have? I dont...I believe they will improve and our system involves passing and cutting..our pg starts the offense in the halfcourt set and does not dominate the ball..everyone touches it in the flex offense. .That's why Oliver has played pg in spots for us...and when Hymes plays it the way it is designed he comes up with 7 assist....I dont deny the kid can play I just think he is more of a 2g and we have several

Nope, he was a D-1 assistant for more than 10 years, and has recruited hundreds of kids in that time for a level very similar to Siena. So I'll listen to what he says, at least until I see him play.
Have you even seen the kid play?
ps--don't get up in the numbers game. Most of these kids numbers are embelished to improve their recruiting standing. Plus I'm sure you have no idea what ttype of competition he's doing this against.
