@4guysinblazers: Fun Facts: Siena is 7th in the nation in fouls per game (23.5) Manhattan is1st (25.7), Niagara 3rd (24.5), Fairfield tied for 16th (22.8)
Couldn't the refs be PART of the problem ... and they do get evaluated by MAAC front office .... Obviously their performance reflects how the league is interpreting the new rule

Siena is not the only team....from attached videos it's obvious that coaches are struggling with the new new rules, ie. Kansas coach. one comment is interesting: the new rules will see who can play defense...you have to move your feet...help defense, boxing out are so important. In the last stages of the Quinny game we didn't do any of that...we lost!!! Not too many worse than Siena who as a team fouls the 7th most in Div 1..individually Lavon Long is tied for 1st ( most fouls per game) with an avg of 4.04 Brett Bisping is 29th nationally at 3.88 fouls a game --interestingly enough Siena is only 3rd worse in MAAC both Manhattan ( who fouls more than anyone in D1) and Niagara foul more That's interesting about being 3rd in MAAC. Anybody know a site where this is listed? I've searched but came up empty.

I know stupid and excessive fouls are definitely a problem, but that list and the high numbers in our conference certainly do raise questions about the officiating.

St Peters facility..My first time..and last time! The place is nothing more than a glorified high school gym. I'm sorry to hear you feel that way and that's too bad. The team can really use all the support it can get. (Especially at away games). We'll miss you next year at SPU.

I don't buy that St. Peter's has greater talent than we do. I can accept road losses to the "big 4", but not St. Pete's (or Monmouth). It shouldn't be happening this late in the season. It happened. I didn't think we'd loose but I can remember Fran's loaded teams having trouble and barely winning at SPU (SPC back then). Hey, stuff happens. Let's move on to Fairfield Monday night & get back into the hunt. Keep your faith in the team and don't give up on them yet. Go Saints!!!

I know stupid and excessive fouls are definitely a problem, but that list and the high numbers in our conference certainly do raise questions about the officiating. Yes - You might think that, but given the list for individual fouls (Tony - thanks for the link) I do think our propensity to foul is not managed well. Manhattan may have the most fouls as a team , but their top individual is #86 in the nation (Pankey - 3.39 fouls/game) and nobody else in the top 100. Niagara is 3rd as a team and they have 2 players in the top 100 (#43 - Ware 3.56 fpg and #70 Snowdon 3.44 fpg). We are seventh and have 3 in the top 100: #1 Long - 4.04 FPG #29 Bisping - 3.62 FPG #78 Silas - 3.42 FPG Without knowing a whole lot more about Niagara & Manhattan, I would say they may play aggressively but they spread the fouls out enough across the roster and the coach manages the fouls per individual better (ie., always sit in the first half with 2, coach them when to ease off, etc). I don't know - it just seems that this is something the coaching staff could do something to minimize the impact for us. Esp., with JP's recent comments about the fouls, it doesn't seem like that is a priority and it has hurt us on several occasions. And it's the fouls 30+ feet from the basket and serve little purpose that hurt.

St Peters facility..My first time..and last time! The place is nothing more than a glorified high school gym. Siena really needs to get to the A10!The gameFouls ..Siena has been dealing with them all year..Why? 1. Youth and inexperience 2. Aggressive defense 3. An inconsistent foul rule! When you look at the officiating in this game- it was a joke! A number of people, including the Catholic University head coach said he was appalled about how officials were calling in the game. And also said this has been a problem all year across the NCAA! Jimmy: I not going after someone who stands up for his players. Especially when the officiating was again ..a joke! As for his yelling…what head coach doesn’t yell ? Saint Fran ? Patino ? Coach K ? THEY ALL YELL! White: He is has to stop with the dumb shots- enough with three pointers! He made 1 all year! Give me a break! Great game by Oliver! The Siena fans: In general …they were GREAT! However, there was one old fat Siena fan – who crossed the line with crap he was saying- both with officials and opposing players! That guy has to SHUT UP! He was pissing everyone off..including some the Siena bench! View AttachmentView Attachment Why does Siena need to get to the A10? can't win on the road in front of a "hostile" 400 people and rarely win there, any year.... Someone explain to me why Siena, or more to the point, fans, think siena has some advantage or birth right to be better then the MAAC? What have any of you seen, minus one run with one amazing class of players, that has shown Siena to be anything more then a run of the mill MAAC team? Any advantage the TUC or having the tourney gives has has rarely made much difference. We have yet to establish any sort of recruiting advantage that supposedly comes with having such a large fan base. We aren't and haven't stolen any up recruits in years, even St Fran recruited in the mid-major world and got lucky. And if any coach sees any success, they are gone, because Siena doesn't play in the same $$ pool as the big boys. Sure siena is willing to pay top dollar in the MAAC, but there is a monster difference between MAAC money and anywhere else... Shit, look at Pitino Jr who we had linked to the Siena job.... he is making $1.2M at Minnesota, which is 4x's what siena would pay. I guess what I am trying to say is Siena is probably where it should be, as we are much closer to be an average MAAC team/progam then anything else... on all levels.....

Not to mention (and I am one of few who mentions) that our academic profile needs a huge upgrade. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy college BBALL from D2 (St.Rose) to UCONN/Indiana Ohio State (sorry Gorvy, I can't ever be a 'cuse fan) but never for one minute have I believed that Siena could live on the BBALL program alone.

If you're referring to who I think you are, this guy has been to more Siena games, home and away, than you will ever get to........particularly if visiting places like Yanitelli is so off-putting for you. He is a long-time fan who has devoted time and money to supporting the Saints on the road, all over the country. He shows up all of the time! Yeah, he gets frustrated the way many of us do, but I have never heard him curse or use inappropriate language toward an official or anyone else. As greenblood suggests, maybe you should walk over to him and express your concerns face-to-face instead of badmouthing him from behind the comfort of an anonymous post.

Siena95 - If you look out our history in the MAAC you'd see that Siena is far from run of the mill. Along with Iona, we've had the most success consistently. When you factor in post-season success though Siena is WAY ahead. As has been mentioned here previously, the MAAC is a share the wealth league so Siena sees the same payout for tourney success that SPU or Canisius see. That's not fair and it doesn't reward success (or the effort and dollars to achieve it). I wouldn't say we have a birth right - I'd say we've achieved it (unless you're a "Siena didn't build that" kinda guy).
As for recruiting, I beg to differ. Fran had a SOLID class coming in when Mitch took over. The great ones left - 1 followed him to Iowa and is doing well. He was winning the recruiting battles but it takes time and continued success in the tournament to do that. Your next point is valid that we keep losing coaches. That will happen in the A10 too but we'll be able to attract better ones too. Additionally, if we do have success we'll be able to pay coaches more due to the profit sharing model of the A10.
As for the fans - well, we do play in a decent arena - not a gym. We do have court side seats that cost a bunch ($750+ per). We do have corporate sponsors. We do have luxury boxes. Compared to anyone else who isn't Fairfield who comes close? Does SPU even charge admission? Heck, did you see the low-budget internet feed from SPU - somebody get those guys a 56K modem - it would be an upgrade.
Do we Siena fans have an ego? Sure. Look at the rest of the league. Yes, we're down and we need to fix this alternating good/horrible/good coaching rotation. There's no reason for it. That said I'd put money on the fact that we'll be leading the league again in 2 year.
