amid all the fouls, and other stuff mentioned here, the opportunity to win this game was right there, Patsos needed to call a TIME OUT for that last play in regulation (right around 15 seconds remaining) and at least GIVE YOURSELF a chance to win with a set play.................they never had a chance with what unfolded, that is totally on him....................no excuses otherwise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As to who is really coaching the team - watch the bench and TO huddles (hate using that word but can't think of another one). Greg is usually talking to the main guys, Luke will take the guy coming out for rehab, Lucious is talking to the main guys with Greg, while Jimmy is staring at someone in his shithouse. He spends more effort trying to get an answer from the kid that got yanked rather than giving the kid the answer that might help him. Save the mind games for the film session and practice floor. His in-game coaching is not strategic yet it needs to be at times. His antics re the hot seat between Greg and Luke is becoming old! Grabbing players and throwing them at the seat or dragging them to the scorer's table is not necessary - he should be using his years of basketball experience to figure out what the next step should be and not bitching about what the last guy did wrong who is now in the hot seat and OUT OF THE GAME. Tired of him trying to steal the show - we come to see the kids play not Jimmy tearing up paper or throwing a hissy fit and trashing his Mark Thomas suit. Well said.

I'm going to disagree with that-- Fran never called a time out in that situation. Quinny was in disarray - why call time out and give a more athletic team time to set their defense. Sorry it worked vs Cornell and St Bona's didnt work last night. But I agree with JP's call there--- we dont have a lot of guys capable of getting off their own shot- we had starters already fouled out and Q was a more athletic team than us.

AND to add another thought.............if this was Fran, he would not have called a time out either, he never did in that situation (it doomed him the other night when his Hawkeyes blew the game to the Spartans/Izzo).....and he very rarely pulled a win out late by letting it ride............it appears some coaches are of the mindset to let the PLAYERS on the floor decide the outcome (the feeling is that although you get to set a play it also allows the opponent to set up a D or then call their time out to see what you are running then adjust accordingly), which they essentially do anyway..................HOWEVER, in those circumstances, you want to make sure you have something on the board, quick hitter, with 2nd & 3rd options..........it is basic coaching 101...............this way, you leave no doubt that you did ALL YOU COULD to try and win the game, if the play falters (and there is no guarantee anyway), then you take your chances in OT..............what we had last night was a fire drill with a mish-mash group at the end of regulation, no more evident to call a TO for that 5 on the floor............lessons learned I hope for JP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree in the sense that coaches don't want to give the defense time to get set up but c'mon Tony if he was yelling at Oliver during the play it was clear to me at least that things weren't going well, so use the timeout to give the offense direction. When Fran did it - he WATCHED and kept his mouth shut. Q had TO's left so they could have set up a defense if they needed to so the argument that our TO would help them doesn't cut it, IMHO.

Like I said before - my inclination at the time was to call a time out, but I understand JP's explanation and can live with that. The only thing I would like to see on the replay is how much time was on the clock when Marquis bobbled the ball at the foul line. The ball ended up way out at half court, so there should have been a least 5 on the clock then. Don't mean to second guess this (again, the game was not lost on this play), but still maybe had a chance for one last gasp that may have been better than the prayer we ended up heaving.

I'm sorry ss, but I was responding to your "observation" that Patsos never takes advice or allows his assistants input. If you want to suggest other changes in behavior fine, but just don't ignore the facts that disprove your misstatement. Well let's catch up on this as the season progresses. Keep a good eye out. One instance does not a pattern make. On the other hand, one instance does the negation of a "never" make.

Fran also wouldn't have had 6 guys foul out. But we can't keep wondering WWFD (you can figure it out). That's not a fair comparison. Different players and different coaches (if we haven't noticed the different sideline demeanor )

.....and he very rarely pulled a win out late by letting it ride.......... ahem remember the Loyola game to win semi final.( when Duell was hero) .. how about FF game to win the MAAC title in 2010..or better yet the Ohio State game ( twice) if I spent some time researching it- I'd bet it more often than not worked for Fran-- something to be said about having a well coached team run its play before Defense can really get set. I know some coaches like to call time out in that situation-- but some do not

My only point is - different history, players and coaching styles.

Sorry about double post.... I'm actually fine with not calling the time out but at that point one team was in disarray but I don't think it was quinny
