If Lavon Long would learn how to stick around for the final five minutes of the game this would have been a win. He OWNED Q on offense tonight. still tied for no. 1 in the country...., It's not only the end of the game he has to sit for long stretches during the game.

I think the reason we slowed the game down in the last few minutes of regulation is because at the time we were struggling to score with Long and Silas on the bench. Once Long went out, we really had trouble scoring so it seemed like Jimmy wanted to milk the clock so we could hang on to the lead as long as possible and hoping to add a basket or two along the way. I thought Jimmy did a decent job, especially with the fouling situation because he kept our bigs in there as long as he could before they fouled out. We needed our bigs in there or otherwise Quinny would have done more damage on the boards. Its just our offense really worked when Long was in there and once he went out everything went down from there

With that said, Jimmy could have called a timeout at the end of regulation to set up a play. Perhaps things turn out better that way, perhaps not. With Marquis' track record at the end of games, I think letting him run the possession was not a bad idea; he just had a badly timed mishandle on the dribble as he was about to make his move. I think the in game coaching was OK here, but JP needs to teach the team how to defend without fouling so freaking much. Especially Lavon, not just because he needs the help, but because we are a much better team at both ends of the court when he is on the floor.

I agree we really do need to work on the fouling issue. We have seen strides of improvement throughout the year, but the refs and the bigs of Quinny really caused a lot of these foul troubles.
Now, related to the whole Jimmy taking a timeout, this is what he had to say after the game:
“I’ll take responsibility as the coach. I didn’t have my team prepared well enough to play. Probably should have called time out with 10 seconds to go but I heard them say ‘switch’ so I figured they had a big guy and we had a guard. Like everyone else in America I thought either we’d get a foul called or then we’d kick it to Rob Poole who was sitting right there and is our best player.”
So if this is really what he heard and/or thought then I agree with his decision. In all reality, we were probably one bad dribble away from a win.

Tough game to lose last night. A learning experience for sure. Siena is pretty much what we thought they were a 500 MAAC team. A few things about last night- hard to fault Jimmy not calling a time out at end or taking air out of ball. ( didn’t like either move but will give him a pass. ) I will say Jimmy really… not lip service—but really needs to address the fouling on this team- yeah I get we have a bunch of freshmen that make stupid fouls—but this happens far too often, time to make some coaching changes Jimmy. His teams in past years always fouled too much—but was within reason, with new rules Jimmy hasn’t changed—you hand check or Bump an offensive player- they will call a foul on you. Jimmy time to make some changes on your coaching approach. Secondly it’s hard to fault a play or two , having said that we really need a backup point guard , offense really bogged down when Wright went out in 1st half- Hymes and Cole is not the answer at PG. Siena was up 24-18 went Wright went out with 8 min to go in 1st half- Siena was outscored 13-22 last 8 min of half. Also need to get more athletic up front- hopefully both “issues” can be addressed via recruiting in off season - we need another scorer but I think that will be addressed with addition of Cole. We are not that far off, but we definitely have a few “holes”

So white lost the game for Siena lol lol lol stop.... I thought his fouls fueled their run. Am I wrong? I just didn't see the logic putting him in that late into a game. You are right. I made the same observation. But he was in because all our big men fouled out. He certainly didn't help.

While we're not here for moral victories...being competitive against Iona and Quinny is a moral win. I agree! Work on the fouling and PLAY CLEAN DEFENSE! Fran's teams were so good because they did not foul! I agree. But Fran's teams also had better players that didn't blow defensive assignments, which leads to less fouling.

Bob Thomsen @sienaman64 @marksingelais your observations on Siena players themselves responsibility for so many fouls as compared to how refs called the game - 02 Feb Mark Singelais @marksingelais @sienaman64 Some of both. Officials are calling it tighter this year by the NCAA's directive. Nothing new. But this was the worst. - 02 Feb 14

Bob Thomsen @sienaman64 @marksingelais did you see which players from both isdes were involved in pushing after the game - 02 Feb Mark Singelais @marksingelais @sienaman64 I believe I saw Poole and Drame in there. There were several.

I don't think we lose many to the UA game. The casual fan may watch SU/Duke. No excuse for a Siena fan. Ehh, no excuses is taking it a bit far. Yes, it is a big game, but no bigger than the rest of the remaining games. I hope to watch on TV tonight, if my wife doesn't go into labor between now and tip-off (that'd be my excuse ). I'm looking for a big game out of Poole tonight. I don't think that our bigs will be able to outshine Azotam/Drame, but hopefully we can contain them a bit. If Poole/Hymes can get hot, I like our chances. I'll give you a pass this time 05. Just don't let it happen again. Best of luck.

...we really need a backup point guard , offense really bogged down when Wright went out in 1st half- Hymes and Cole is not the answer at PG. Siena was up 24-18 went Wright went out with 8 min to go in 1st half- Siena was outscored 13-22 last 8 min of half. Long went to the bench @ the 6 min mark with Siena up 28-23 and didn't return. He fouled out @ the 4:45 mark with Siena up 78-69. So in those approx 11 min, we were outscored by 18 pts and we only scored 16 pts in 11 min (1.45 ppm) vs 2.38 ppm over the other 29 min of regulation. Losing key guys for long stretches, Quis included, was the difference in this game. But specifically without Long, we weren't able to match Q at either end of the floor.

Actually Long went out with 5:44 to play in 1st half and Siena up 28-25( have to count the two fouls Q made from Lavons foul) they were up 7 when Long fouled out in 2nd half and actually extended lead to 9 points a few min later on 3 pointer by Poole... While I agree losing multiply players to disqualification played a part in eventually losing... the offense was not well run for last 8 min of 1st half. And this isn't the first time we have seen this. Spin it any way you want. We have a major weakness in having no back up point guard. One of the reasons why we are basically a .500 MAAC level team

Actually we should have been up at the half but Hymes blew an assignment and let Q hit a 3 at the buzzer. Hymes ran the offense fine in those last minutes. We just missed shots. And yeah the offense is going to bog down a little bit without Wright in there, but you seem to be overexaggerating this stretch. Hymes ran the offense fairly well with one or two mistakes. We simply weren't scoring because we weren't making shots, but Q was.
