Young Saints can surpass a few milestones with a win- more MAAC wins than last year – more total wins than last year and more road wins than last year- not bad for being January. A win will also put us in good position to challenge for top 5 spot in MAAC and finish with winning record in MAAC
It won’t be easy – 1st of all young Saints have not played particularly well on road and secondly who knows what FF team shows up- Stags have been horrible at times- and pretty good at others with wins over Bucknell and last week over Manhattan at home. Stags struggle to score points – if Saints can get to 70 points or better I like our chances – should be another test of where our Saints are in development process. Thoughts on Saints chances?

Siena struggles to score too, as they rarely exceed 70 points in a game. So I see this game being a low scoring snoozer that will be ugly to watch. That's how Fairfield plays, and Siena will get sucked into that style. That said, Fairfield is dreadful - easily the worst team in the league. If Siena could win at Niagara, they should win in Bridgeport. Fairfield has no homecourt advantage, as I'm sure most of their fans have abandoned them. They never exactly filled their arena to begin with.
I'm not sure how Fairfield beat Manhattan. It was certainly a fluke. But if Siena can't win this game, it solidifies them as a likely PIG team. I expect Poole and Wright to have big games (Wright is becoming quite the scorer lately), but the big guys could struggle against Fairfield's interior defense. I see Siena slipping by with a 60-55 win.

Fairfield appears to have an edge in the front court with Maurice Barrow and Marcus Gilbert. However I think Siena has the much better guard play. If we can avoid turning it over and shoot a decent percentage from the field and line I like our chances to get a win. Hopefully we come out strong in a noon start on the road with probably not much energy in the arena.

Fairfield appears to have an edge in the front court with Maurice Barrow and Maurice White. When did Maurice White transfer to Fairfield?

Agreed - It is an important game. First, just to get a conf road win (I don't care how bad anybody thinks FF is - no game is a gimme - hey, they beat Manhattan!) and 2 in a row. Would also get us back to .500 and build on some of that confidence we've been seeing. And, yes, Marquis using some of that confidence in scoring double-digits past 3 games. He and Evan seem to have a good chemistry finding each other breaking and cutting to the hoop.

Just watched Fairfield vs Monmouth on MAAC TV... Monmouth started 2 6'10 centers and Fairfield lives on the perimeter with Gilbert hitting 6 3's for his first 18pts of the game...Fairfield played with one post player while they had 4 players shooting jumpers with no inside play...they looked like Iona..Monmouth went smaller and got back in the game... not alot of driving by FF but they moved the ball well outside the 3 Pt line to get shots up.

Sienafan is probably right and game will be a dogfight since Siena struggles to score also ( doubly so on road) but if the Saints get 70 or more they should win this game... anything less and it will be a nail biter than can go either way
Saints start out as 1.5 point underdogs

Admittedly I haven't checked into FF but am wondering if they have anyone who can stop Poole or if Lavon assuming he stays on the floor and plays the 4. That would open of things quite a bit, aka take pressure off, Wright, Hymes, White and Oliver.
If Poole and Long have good games I think Siena wins fairly easily. If not.....

The last two games they've hoisted up over 30 3's in each game - more than 2-point shots in each game. Gilbert is 6'6" but relies heavily on long distance shots. They don't drive a lot and don't go to the line much. They do have good size for the MAAC starting three forwards (Glibert, Johnson, Sidibe) with Barrow coming off the bench. And, they're one of the worse shooting teams in all of college basketball.
Should be an ugly dogfight at their place but this is a game Siena should win.
